So apparently the Catholic church is only ok with same sex relationships when it is between priests and alter boys.

While I don't agree with homosexuality I don't think they handled this properly. Did they have any question as to whether or not she was gay before this came out? She was a female gym teacher. Has there ever been a female gym teacher that wasn't gay?

Probably didn't help much with her being a gym teacher and making girls in short shorts feel all uncomfortable

She likes hanging it with younger versions of her sex in a "catholic" setting....

Seems par for the religion..

If it was a public school I'd have an issue with it simply because as long as it's not effecting her job (i.e. drug use, illicit relationship with student, etc) then it shouldn't matter what she does behind closed doors. And I'd have real issue with someone being fired based on a religious doctrine/opinion from a public, state/federal funded school.

With it being a private school and a religious one at that, they have a different set of guidelines for their employees and as a religious based organization should be able to do as they see fit by them (within reason obviously).

It's a private catholic school. What's the problem?

i dont see the big deal. the school is a private school and can hire and fire as they please. she knew the rules when she took the job, if she didn't like them she could have taken a job at public school

I don't have a problem with the firing per se. The part they mishandled was the way they explained it...

quote:

Hutson, in a handwritten response, reportedly wrote: "You were not terminated for being gay, but for the spousal relationship publicized in the newspaper which is against church teaching."

I read that as you're not fired for being gay, you're fired because your spouse is gay.

Wouldn't it be customary to just transfer her to another Catholic school and pretend none of this happened?

That's not close to what they were saying. They were saying they didn't fire her because she was gay, but because she made her gayness public in the news paper. I'm sure it was whispered that she was gay before this incident.
