He's 6-foot-3 and 315 pounds, but was light enough on his feet to dunk a basketball as a 300-pound freshman. The rising junior learned how to throw the shot put seven weeks ago. He's at the state track meet this weekend because he can already heave one 50 feet.
His bench press shot up like a 2001 tech stock this spring. He's adding five pounds every two days to his max. That's currently at 395 pounds.
"I can power clean 305 (pounds) and can squat 435," Payne said.
Smith is confident he'll hoist 450 pounds by October.
15-years old. Picked up Alabama offer today

Shades Valley sophomore DT Daron Payne now has Alabama, Auburn, Ole Miss and South Carolina offers
Alabama came to see him at practice on Friday, but he was at the state track meet throwing the shot put for Shades Valley.
So Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart flew down to Gulf Shores on Saturday. He told Smith and Shades Valley track coach Gary Ferguson he had a scholarship offer. Payne said that was unexpected.
"He compared me to Marcell Dareus," Payne said. "He said I was quick and big and he liked me."
Posted about him in the Auburn recruiting thread but wondered if anyone over here had any thoughts? Chances this kid sustains they hype through his senior year?

I'm assuming OM leads?
The powerful defensive lineman with a 2.8 GPA grew up an Auburn fan. His father is an Auburn fan. He remembers watching Auburn games growing up with his grandfather.
He shared his thoughts on a topic that will likely mirror every top in-state recruit's decision when it comes between choosing to play at Alabama or Auburn.
It will be a gauge of Alabama's present versus Auburn's future under first-year head coach Gus Malzahn.
"I want to see what the program is like this year under the new coaching staff," Payne said. "It would make it a much tougher decision -- way more -- to choose between Auburn and Alabama."
Payne mentioned what he's looking for out of Auburn in 2013.
"More SEC wins and a little bit more fight in the team on the field," he said.

So, he's going to Bama unless Gus impresses him on the field this year.

Sounds like he's Auburn's to lose.

We are generally not in the business of turning down people his size unless they have half a foot.

Shades Valley is usually very pro-Alabama, but we haven't signed anyone from there in a few years. His size and athleticism says he'll be a priority. But 2015 is still a ways away.

Selfish Bastards
And I know the guy who you're refering to with the half foot; just cant think of his name but I think he's going to use being rejected by both State schools as motivation and will turn out to be a great player
