The impending death of the HUNH offense...

This is for all you TAMU, AU and OM fans(among others) who think you've found Saban's kryptonite. Offenses are always trying to stay one step ahead of defenses. For every new offense, the defenses always catch up, and then the next new thing comes out. That's why you don't see the wishbone anymore, or even the run and shoot much, heck even the "WildCat" craze is about gone now. It usually takes defenses 3-5 years to catch up and shut something down. Same will happen with all this HUNH stuff.

Saban is already addressing the issue by going to more simple terminology so calls can be made more quickly, and he is recruiting a different type of front 7 now if you have noticed. We are not signing anymore 350 pound nose guards like Mt. Cody anymore. Even our DE's are getting more athletic and lighter in our recruiting. I also think you'll almost see two different starting units in the front 7 in coming years. We will have a bigger, stronger front 7 for when we play power teams like LSU and UF, and then lighter, faster guys that start and play against TAMU, AU, etc. When we play TAMU, look for our starting nose guard to be Pagan, normally at DE. You won't see much of the heavy run stuffers like DePriest and Sunseri either. We will have smaller faster guys out there to contain JFF. Saban will shut this down, he is working night and day to formulate a plan to destroy the HUNH and I think you'll see the beginning of that this year as teams like TAMU, OM and AU begin to really struggle to put points on the board against Bama. Moral of the story, all you HUNH hopefuls better be prepared to have your hopes crushed this fall and beyond.
