In fairness i think that's sort of what he was saying

but reasonable bama fans shouldn't have too much trouble understanding why it's frustrating when we have to a beat a team twice to win the title but they only have to beat us once.

In fairness--that is exactly what I was saying.

And yes I can see the frustration in that. LSU did everything it was supposed to do. We can argue all day who "should" have been your opponent--I'm not sure, given the rules, would it have been more "fair" to let OSU (who lost to a 6 win team) play in the title game over a Bama squad whose only loss was 3 points in overtime to what some were saying was the GOAT.

We all played the same system, and Bama ended up #2 in the BCS tally. I don't feel compelled to put an apology or asterisk on that.

Again, by the last quarter of the season he and Ford were totally buried on the depth chart and wouldn't be playing next year even if they had stayed.

LSU was 13-1 in '11. As you know that loss wasn't to the cats.

PRICELESS!!!!!!
bama fan stating LSU fans need to realize it takes teams ranked ahead of you to lose for you to make the title game.

Who had to lose in '11 for bama to back into title game?

If OK St doesn't lose in '11 does that mean they were BETTER than bama?

What about '12? What teams had to lose late for the tide to fall into title game, AGAIN?

Go back and read it again, dude.

It is what it is, it happened and it's over. Just sucks pretty hard when that happens to your team and on top of it it's against your biggest rival coached by the fan bases' most hated person in history

Forget about the losses. This is what LSU returns.

OFFENSE

14 players that have started 128 games. Plus four more with solid PT.

DEFENSE

9 players with 56 starts combined. Plus another dozen that saw major SEC PT.

Ware got a lot of touches (even the last quarter of the season) for someone who was buried on the depth chart.

From what I remember, he was effectively a 3rd down back. They liked to put him if they wanted to throw to the RB.

I'm not saying he or Ford were huge losses. They weren't. Not every one of Bama's contributors was a huge loss either.

ETA: Look at this way. Ware had more than 3 times the receptions of Kelly Johnson who was Bama's starting H-back.

That's great. As AllBamaDoesIsWin posted earlier, Bama has a lot returning as well.

And if an LSU fan will acknowledge that Bama deserved the second spot in the game as much as anyone else--given the resume of everyone else in the field--and that they deserved the title having won the game, that too might be a first.

If OSU beats that 6 win team we're not having this conversation.

anyone think that maybe the strong points on their team have little support?

No. That's why you recruit depth. Saban didn't seem to even worry with a retooled offensive line in the spring. The secondary is the only real concern.

yep, sure would

j/k. Bama definitely deserved the title because they took advantage of their opportunity. I still have serious reservations about the philosophy of favoring who had the better loss and opposed to who went out and had the better wins in terms of who to put in that game, but they obviously were as deserving as just about anyone and had a good argument to be there.

Well hell. Look we took some beatings at the hands of LSU during our darkest times. And if we're being honest LSU is definitely our most relevant--if not most hated--rival.

At least until Auburn beats us again. Which hopefully won't be for another 10 years.

One can dream.

But as to Bama/LSU, if you go back to 2008--you know, the year we were "national championship contender" level, they have virtually all been epic.

I think the NC game was an off night for LSU. I think there was a little bit of "inevitability" creeping into the mindset of LSU, the way they had been winning. But the warning signs were there--LSU needing that "spark" in the SECCG, for example. What happens if that "spark" never comes? It didn't that night.

I was surprised as much as the next guy how that game went down, given how every other game went down over the past five or so years.
