I'm sure an article will be out soon, but Bowlsby(Big12 Commisioner) gave an interview today:

Mike Finger ?@mikefinger 2h
Bowlsby on ESPN's influence on college sports: "They control a lot of the inventory, no doubt about that."

Mike Finger ?@mikefinger 2h
Bowlsby: "No one has proven to me larger is better."

Mike Finger ?@mikefinger 2h
Bowlsby on SEC network: "They're going to get a lot of exposure. But I'm not sure they're going to pay their members as much as the Big 12."

Mike Finger ?@mikefinger 1h
Bowlsby said raiding/weakening ACC/Big East "is not good for college athletics. ... Engulf and devour doesn't work."

Mike Finger ?@mikefinger 1h
Bowlsby on marketing the new playoff: "We want it to be more like the Masters than NASCAR."

Mike Finger ?@mikefinger 44m
One last thing: Bowlsby rolled his eyes when I asked him about Jim Delany's doomsday DIII scenario regarding the O'Bannon lawsuit....

Mike Finger ?@mikefinger 42m
Bowlsby said of worst-case outcome: "Would it change the way we do biz? Yes. Does it create an Armaggedon situation? I'm not sure it does."

Right now the current deal(s) look like this.

SEC
15 years, $2.25 billion, ESPN (through 2024)
15 years, $825 million, CBS (through 2024)
Annual: $205 million
Average Annual per School: $17.1 million

The new contract is expected to be renegotiated to account for the additions of Texas A&M and Missouri, likely before the 2024 expiration. The SEC Network is projected, depending on future additions, to gain the conference and additional $10-$20 million per school per year.

So right now, I think we jump from 17.1 to 27.1 each school/per year, on the low end. If we pickup a NC or VA school, before the network launches in '14, then that number goes up.

Our best case scenario would be to pickup 2 new schools by this summer, to give us ample time to research and negotiate the impact of the additions. (Although, I would suspect we already have researched that and know the numbers of anticipated added viewership.)

What's wrong with that. On it's face it would seem that they are trying to preserve the sanctity of college football in the south on saturday afternoons. I'm sure this plays into your worldview somehow. How? I have no idea.

Looks like the ACC signed a GOR today & are getting a network and more money & everyone is happy

Some reason I figured Slive wanted to go to 16 teams ... think he's pissed?.. or was the ACC allowed the GOR to keep the B1G out of the South? Or does ESPN see value in ACC basketball and baseball or something?

I don't think that Slive ever WANTED to go to 16, but he would prefer to 14. I would guess this means though that the SEC will almost have to go to a 9 game schedule. The imbalances in the 8 game schedule would just be too glaring over the long haul, and half the teams would never play each other.

Who's the dude on the far left?

The only HC I count missing is Mullen, but this cat on the left looks nothing like him. Not enough of a hunchback and no NASA space gloves on.

@SethEmerson: Nick Saban and Steve Spurrier spent about a minute gabbing with each other rather than watch an SEC Network promo video. Richt watched.

Huh? My understanding is the that current deal no longer exist and has already been renogotiated (ESPN,SEC Network) and this does not include CBS which is currently being negotiated and the deal has been extended to 2032.
