We talk about the windfall of the SEC Network... that is only about half of what this guy wants. I think he would hit that total immediately by joining the SEC, but he is going to need far more than conference affiliation to join the Floridas/tus/Ohio States of the world. His school just isn't in that tier.

I hate UNC, but I think they could be in that tier, or very close with a move to the SEC. They are already a top basketball program, very good in baseball, and are in a decent recruiting area for football. The move to the SEC with those extra revenues could be enough to push them over the top.

He's got a few options.

1.) Start winning more in all programs. This will drive attendance and revenues.

2.) Renegotiate with the ACC to get a bigger piece of the pie from the current contracts. (Really unlikely to happen.)

3.) Help renegotiate better contracts for the ACC for media and bowls. (This could take years.)

4.) Leave the ACC for the Big10ish.

5.) Leave the ACC for the SEC.

6.) Leave the ACC for the Big12ish, but only if they are stable and adding other teams.

Check out this link about TV Revenues by conference.
https://collegesportsinfo.com/2012/05/10/2012-ncaa-television-revenue-by-conference/

Currently:

ACC
15 years, $3.6 billion, ESPN (through 2027)
Annual: $240 million

Average Annual per School: $17.1 million

Big Ten
10 years, $1 billion, ABC/ESPN (through 2016)
25 years, +$2.8 billion, Big Ten Network (through 2032)
6 years, $145 million, Fox (B1G championship game through 2016)
Annual: $236 million
Average Annual per School: $19.7-$22 million

Big 12
13 years, $1.2 billion, Fox (through 2025)
13 years, $1.4 billion, ABC/ESPN (through 2025)
Annual: $200 million
Average Annual per School: $20 million

SEC
15 years, $2.25 billion, ESPN (through 2024)
15 years, $825 million, CBS (through 2024)
Annual: $205 million
Average Annual per School: $17.1 million
Notes: contract is expected to be renegotiated in time with the additions of Texas A&M and Missouri, likely before the 2024 expiration. The SEC may be on it’s way to starting it’s own network that depending on future additions, could gain the conference and additional $10-$20 million per school per year).

SO, if UNC jumps to the SEC, BEFORE the contract is negotiated, it would move the schools closer to that $30+million a year mark, which would be his 40%+ increase their AD mentioned in the OP's article.

That would be a major coup if the SEC could pick them up...

If UNC came wouldn't that immediately put Duke on the clock? Which would kind of be cool because....

-UNC Basbeball is legit

-BOTH school have wrestling, Fencing and lacrosse.... don't really know what to make of that.

-Both teams have Men's Soccer which would put the SEC number to 4 (UK and USC) meaning there could be an Men's Soccer SEC Championship.

- Kentucky, UNC, Duke, Mizzou, Florida.. finally an actual decent Basketball conference. A little SEC East heavy but who cares at this point.

-Bringing in Duke means another Vandy team on the schedule for footall

-Bring in Duke and UNC means including The Tobacco Road Rivalry, Michael Jordan, The Cameron Crazies and all that Jazz into the SEC.

-Coach K and Nick Saban in the same conference

I don't see both UNC and Duke coming. I think it's one or the other.

I agree, if at all possible. Two schools from one state would not help our business model nearly as much as adding a school from NC and another from Virginia. This is especially important with the SEC network and its revenues.

I don't think Slive wants two schools from the same market, though. Schools are breaking their traditions for more money. I don't really see this case being any different. It's becoming an every school for themselves mentality.

The only schools I really see holding on to the old way of thinking are OU and OkSt.

not very, they'd be doormats in the SEC. Auburn just bought a great JUCO seeker, LSU and Bama have the best captains in the country, Georgia's keeper is unstoppable and A&M's been the best beater school for ages
