I'm looking for hotel recommendations. I'm going to be staying a week so nothing too pricy. Also needs to be within 10-15 miles of UAB. I can do a search on Priceline that shows hotels within that distance but I don't want to be in a "bad" area. The hotels that are downtown right beside UAB are nice but I don't want to pay $140 a night for 7 nights. TIA

Stay south of Bham: Hoover or Pelham
Or North: Fultondale
Or East: Trussville
Those or much better options than downtown and will have some cheaper chain hotels to stay in. Those areas are also nicer than Bham.

Thanks, what about Homewood? I'm seeing a lot of hotels in Homewood in the Priceline search.

You get a break at the Marriot if you tell them you are in town for reason pertaining to UAB Hospital. Springhill suites is 3 blocks from UAB and is $90 a night for a single queen or $110 for double queen.

Homewood isn't bad at all. There's no reason to stay all the way out in Pelham. Fultondale is probably the next most convenient after Homewood.
Avoid anywhere East of the city right now as major interstate (I20) is closed for a few months and all traffic is being diverted to other roads.

And what WDE1980 said is the very best option. Also check out the new BB Park downtown during your visit.

Sack up and stay at the Knight Motel on 3rd Ave N near the interstate.

I suggest the Hampton off Lakeshore. Pretty close drive to UAB.

Theres a new Courtyard that is on 4th or 5th ave south. Block or two from UAB and Regions park. Also lots of food choices close. Would have to take a cab to Southside, Lakeview(Hotel might have a shuttle for these 2) or Avondale though. My Boss stayed there recently and it was really nice.

I liked this one because there was dining in the immediate area, but they don't have any rooms available.

If you go with Homewood, avoid anything on Greensprings or Valley Ave. Like others have said, you shouldn't have to go down to Pelham, depending on the hours, you would be hitting traffic at the worst times headed to UAB. There might be some that are decent down on Lakeshore but it is a little further away, down 65. You could stay down 280 near the Colonnade but it is further away and has tons of rush hour traffic. I have stayed once at the Redmont and it wasn't horrible but that was several years ago.

The double tree is right down the street from UAB but i believe there is a marriot near homewood less than ten minutes away.
