This is a serious question, which school in Mississippi is considered the "Flagship" school of the state (a la LSU, Arkansas, UTK etc..) which has the bigger enrollment? endowment? which is considered the better academic institution overall? or is it really even as it appears from the outside?

It's pretty even overall.
OM founded first. Smaller school now. Will have the endowment advantage for about 4 more years given the overall endowment growth rates of each institution over the past decade. Longterm, barring a major shuffling of the deck, MSU will be the richer school.
Academically, we are similar with very different concentrations. Our admissions standards(and thus university rankings) are both f'd due to the Ayers Case -- the terms of which are now mostly crumbling. Once that's in the rearview, longterm we are going to cooperatively raise admissions standards together uniformly -- thus eventually returning some of the academic prestige of both institutions...

Southern Mississippi Community College at Hattiesburg. Its $12 endowment leads all Landmass schools.
