He certainly did. But let's be honest. Had the football team's fortunes not improved the way they did, his tenure would not be viewed as successful. At least not the way it is viewed today.

He also greatly improved facilities under his watch and was a part of 7 football national titles at Alabama before he hired Saban.

True. Bama fans (maybe a majority) wanted Moore fired right before he hired Saban.

He was considered incompetent and too old by most gumps at the time.

The way I have heard it, Saban was Moore's first choice but he couldn't wait on the guy forever. Out of necessity he went with Rodriguez and fortunately (for Alabama) Rodriguez backed out.

Rich Rodriguez turns down offer from Alabama

WHY? Bama could've had 3-9 season like Rich Rod had at Michigan.

And did so keeping the budget in the black. Most people don't really understand the real role od an AD. Moore was a phenom at raising money. Plus there are several other sports at BAMA that are thriving under his watch.

I always heard that he was trying to get Rich Rod, but the boosters basically told him to go frick himself, they were getting Saban. Hire him, or they'd get someone in office who will.

Very true - he could have had multiple athletic programs shite the bed only two years removed from the football team winning an NC.

Thank goodness that didn't happen or we'd be seeing banners hanging off beach condo's and web-sites popping up with fans and students calling for his head on a platter right now.

and let's not forget the botched Fran situation (don't think he actually hired franchione, but the way he left was a big black eye)... hiring/firing mike price... hiring/firing mike shula... and pretty well botched the coaching search in 2006.

He did oversee the extensive expansion of BDS, and the move away from Legion Field... you could argue those moves would've happened anyway, but no doubt he was instumental in making them happen.
