lots of bad reporting on this. The problem with this particle is that it is extremely illusive, so they've been pretty sure for a while that they've found it. I didn't read the article but I imagine this time they're just a little more sure and have more evidence.

Your exactly right. The new evidence is the spin and its parity is positive. They'll continue to analyze the data and come out with more info in another 8 months.
ETA: The spin and parity are important because that's what the theory predicts.

They "found" it but they had to review the data to make sure they found what they thought they found. It's not like you can take a picture of it and be like "Higgs".
