Since there are no open spring practices this year, I thought we could have a place for any tidbits of info that you stumble across elsewhere.

A mod on RT went and saw Coach B speak at the White County Razorback club last night. He talked a bit about practice so far. Here is his synopsis:
quote:
Listening to CBB at Searcy High School right now. He said uniforms will be the same in '13 due to contract. He'll have influence on them in 2014. White helmet will don a red Hog this yr.![]()
The question was asked, "How do you feel about playing at Bama, Florida and LSU in the same year?"His reply: "They have to play us."
The JUCO transfers have been "very impressive", and he expects them to elevate our D this yr.
Kiero Small has gone from 270 down to 252 and is a "freak show".![]()
JWill is "big and angry" and will likely be the bell cow of the offense.
Kody Walker is now #24. After two injuries in #40, he asked to switch.
Austin Flynn is no longer a Razorback. Good relationship still exists between the coaches and him, but he won't be back.
Coach feels good about our defensive front.
"Lots of work to do on the offensive line, and at QB."
Offense will evolve over time as staff gets its own players in place. Staff needs time to recruit and develop players. TE will be an important position. Best two TE's are currently two walk-ons. Didn't say names.
Coach Bielema had the crowd in the palm of his hand. Lots of charisma. He definitely knows how to win the fans.
Said seniors are hungry to win and are working hard, showing "awesome leadership". Players are buying in.
Coach said don't assume what you saw us do on offense at Wisky is what you'll see here. There will be some familiar elements but "you'll see more of my brand of football", implying that he was limited by personnel and outside influence while there.
He said we'll be the "most disciplined and prepared" team on the field. We won't beat ourselves.
He's very high on the incoming class. Talked in depth about Koehler from Hawaii and Dan Skipper. Much praise to Pittman for landing them. He joked about Alex Collins' NSD debacle. Said he (Coach) will be sending two Mother's Day cards to Alex's mom.
Nathan Holmes has gone from 165 to 181 under the strength coach. Coach said every time he sees Holmes, he says, "Go eat!"
Said QB will be wide open this spring and fall. Incoming freshmen will get a hard look.

Yeah if he can get up to near 190 and still keep his speed then I can see him playing the role that Melvin Gordon played for Wisconsin last season. Lining up on the wing or in the slot and getting mainly speed sweeps. Gordon absolutely killed it from that spot. Chaney loves the speed sweep too, giving Cordarelle Patterson a ton of carries that way this past season, so I have to think it will br a staple in our offense now. Holmes is the perfect candidate for it imo.

maybe it's partly the toll of last season but it seems like it's been a long time since we had a real qb battle- should be interesting.

When's the last time this happened? Would be a welcome change! I'm so friggin' sick of shooting ourselves in the foot with stupid penalties.

Herr is another blurb from Coach B's appearance in Searcy last night.
quote:
CBB stated at the Searcy event that he is scratching his head on what to do about the LB situation. He also was asked if he's had any trouble with players getting into "discipline" trouble. CBB stated that there hasn't been a player tall enough to look him in the eyes AND have the balls to say something, so no he doesn't have "discipline" issues.

Taverres, Spaight, & Peters best be ready to log some long minutes.

You're not lying.
Hearing Herbert talk about AJ Turner's less than spectacular work ethic was also a little disappointing. I really hope he steps it up as well.

And from an Interview I heard a while back with the new RB coach.
-"You forgot to ask me about Small!" "I called him and told him if he was at my school last year I would have had a 1800 yard rusher"
eta: Its at the very end of the interview

Here it is:
I'm trying to find a free version of the interview because it really was a great read. He did a 22 minute interview with the media and had a lot of good info.
quote:
Q: A.J. Turner is a guy that played undersized. How is he progressing?
A.J. Turner, I think, is a guy who’s one of my biggest challenges right now. Because I hear that he’s done some good things on the football field. He doesn’t necessarily bring the sense of urgency off the field like he does some days in the weight room. … There’s days he comes in, he’s great. There’s days he comes in and he’s OK. But like I tell him … I need you to be consistent. He’s a smaller frame guy. But to be successful in this league, you don’t have to be 250 pounds, but you have to put on some lean mass. You have to get them to continue to progress. He has to feed his body. He has to hydrate. That’s his biggest challenge. From everything I’ve heard – again, I haven’t see him play – but from everything I’ve heard, he’s a talented football player. His sense of urgency in terms of doing the things that he needs to do to really help his body develop, he has to eat well, combined with he has to be consistent in the room. His desire is there. We have to make sure it’s there every day in the weight room and out of the weight room. But a guy I’m excited about to see, as he does continue to develop, see him just become even more special than guys say he already.
