Saw this on another board.
CRAZY. I knew he was a legend, but I did not know much about his stats while in college.
quote:
The Pistol played 6 games against the Tide during his career at LSU and averaged 44.8 pts against us. The highlight being a 69 point outing in 1970, I believe in Foster Auditorium. His college highlights: he AVERAGED 44.2 pts/game for his career (3667 total points) All-time NCAA scoring leader ranks 1st, 4th, and 5th for most points in a single season in NCAA history And remember, this was years before the 3pt line ever existed.

Guy's got records that will never be broken.
An old roommate of mine told me his father went to LSU while Pistol Pete played. At the games, the dude just looked bored.

I remember when Bama signed Pistol Pete's son. He kept the pine warm.

I would imagine it's pretty tough trying to live up to a legend.

his other son did the same at LSU

No shot clock either. My dad told me that teams would just hold the ball on offense so that he didn't get a chance on offense

In those days, Frosh weren't allowed to play varsity either. He only played three years of varsity.

Give him a shot clock and 3 point line, he averages 50+ a game easily

If I remember correctly, he also had a badly sprained ankle in this game ....

I think I heard Dale Brown charted every one of his shots and figured out he would have averaged like 53PPG with a 3 point line
