We currently have 6 players who have had a minimum of 30 at bats on the season who are hitting .281 or less. I could be mistaken but I believe we have seen average pitching at best. I also believe that guys like Mathis and Mistone averages will start rising, however I am concerned about Allen and Orvis. What are yalls thoughts?

The problem with Orvis is that he just isn't that great of a hitter. Once Gaitlin comes back I wouldn't mind seeing Preston being moved to first.

Yes. Orvis blows a big one. I am not content with more than half our team hitting under .280, not at the college level frick that. People talk about getting the two out timely hits and we can't get em (aside from Turner, he's beastmode right now). I'm gonna be pissed if were in for another year like 2012 at the plate and its looking like its going to be, I don't care what anyone says.

Ole Miss is performing above theoretical production: 85 runs vs. 78.46 expected. That shows they are getting more timely hits than expected.

I think we have seen better pitching than most of the West. Finnegan and Morrison are still two of the top college arms out there. It's TCU's offense that has been horrid.

You're absolutely right on Mathis. He has the contact numbers of an elite hitter so far this season. His hits just aren't falling. It's very similar to Austin Anderson last year. Mistone doesn't project to rise a lot in batting average, but he has done a really good job getting on base.

I agree with you on Orvis. His swing makes me cringe.

Allen will come up. I think he is just slumping right now. I believe Jamison is in the same situation, but he is closer to coming out.

While I agree that TCU's pitching is solid, we are about to run into better pitching in the SEC and not just good, but often. MSU, Arky and Vandy all have really stout pitching. UF, Bama and UT are no slouches so far this season, based on SEC stats.

Hopefully, a few of those 6 teams will be exposed for being average staffs pitching to shitty OOC teams and we won't have too much trouble. But if they are all as real as they appear this early in the season, I can't help but think we're going to struggle at the dish again this season.

Do work, Cliff.

ETA: I hope you're right, Barstool.

I think Orvis will be in the lineup no matter what..He is a Bianco Fav...Allen was a good hitter last year.Maybe he needs to play in the field more so he feels more confident... And how in the world do we know Gaitlan will be a good sec second baseman he has never played there in sec..I am surprised by the errors that Anderson has at shortstop that is alot and we have not even started sec play yet.. But good news is he is finally hitting above 235 so give up a little defense for offense.. and the fact is we do not have another shortstop this year...The lineup is what we will see he has settled on the starters and I think it has made them play better instead of making them compete for positions during sec play makes for a better and confident team they know they are playing every day... Also it has been asked about Orvis Bat and allen and Jamison and he stated they are hitters and will come around... I truely believe Allen will swing it good this year.. He hit over 300 last year.. He is a proven hitter.. We Really have not played but maybe 2 good teams with pitching..This weekend we are not playing a great team either..We should be able to let the hitters get out of their slump..

One huge issue we are ignoring.

Will MB actually continue to allow his staff to handle their respective areas of the game while he focuses on pitching? Or will he revert back to his old self at the first sign of trouble and micromanage the frick out of the rest of the season?

This, to me, is going to play a big part in our performance in the heart of the SEC schedule.

This is important for 2 reasons. First, if he wants us to hit better, he needs to let Cliff run shite.

Second, if he wants to keep his job after missing a SR again this season, he'll need someone to throw under the bus.

you are correct...Godwin will not stay at ole miss and look like a bad hitting instructor he wants to climb the ladder and move on..Bianco is not running the offense right now..cliff is.we are stealing bases and playing the running game.Bianco has a formula for stealing bases off the pitcher he does not care how fast you are if it is not in the formula you are not running...and we are running a lot right now.So things are looking pretty good. just hope people give Bianco credit because he will want it .
