Said this on Jox yesterday, does the Auburn board agree with this?

I have mixed feels about this.

On one hand, Gus is working with almost entirely his players on the offensive side of the ball. On the other hand, they suck.

The last couple years, yes, they were bad. We have a lot of talent on both sides of the ball. Our line should be a little older and wiser now and hopefully with a true training system back in place and a coach to ride their arse, they will be strong again. If we find a quarterback to fit into the system, the offense will put up some decent numbers.

8 wins would be a good year with the strength of the SEC west these days. I do think we can beat LSU unless Cameron does wonders.

Our guys most definately have the physical ability to be as good as any team. The past two years play are not an accurate reflection of our players. Our problem has been the mentality and the leadership - both players and coaches. This year's coaching changes should give the players the direction they need. Malzahn's offense will score touchdowns. That's the biggest factor in the '09 and '10 teams' successes. I think this staff will lead a dramatic turn-around and we very well could win 8 or 9 games. When you compare our recruiting over the past several years and our present coaching staff, we are as good as or superior to almost all of our opponents.

I really want us to start winning against UGA again. They are owning us lately.

Would be nice to win in Red Stick again in my lifetime also.

W State - W
A State - W
M State - W
LSU - I think we have a good chance. Only thing is its in BR. Toss up
OM - we're lucky bc OM goes to Bama the weekend before and we have an off weekend. - W/Toss up
W Carolina - W
A&M - L
FL Atl - W
Ark - W
TN - W
Georgia and Bama - Rivalry games are always a toss up (ie Iron Bowl 2009). Unfortunately the last couple of years, especially last year hasn't felt this way.

If we can upset LSU, GA, or Bama I think an 8 or 9 win season is definitely possible. Assuming we don't drop one to OM, Ark or TN

That is very optimistic and all but you are missing key points. We recruited a number of players and played them out of position so there will be readjustment periods. We had coaches not coaching up kids compared to other schools, so while they are getting better we stayed the same and now all our effort will be to close that gap not add to our "talent" advantage we have.

Finally, we have been lax and easy on players not going full throttle in S&C programs. While guys like Clowney at USCe are getting up to 270+ and strong, our guys are eating Cheetos and robbing drug dealers.

There is the possibility that we started at a talent advantage compared to many teams we will face, but their coaching staffs had not only caught up but surpassed us due to coaching their players up, good schemes and S&C.

Then the teams like UA, UGA, LSU and UF have all been recruiting in our league or better so they are only adding on their gap on us

Well, we were doing all those things in 2011 and still managed to somehow win 8 games. 8 may be a stretch in 2013, but it's certainly a possibility.

Yeah, but that was when Ole Miss was a dumpster fire - and we got lucky as hell against MSU.

Arky sucks but we still managed to lose to them last season, no one knows how much UT will improve...

That's 4 toss-ups, to go with 4 rent-a-wins and what might as well be 4 automatic losses.

Is he trolling?

He thinks this no talent team can win 8 games? Maybe if that includes the bowl game.

I think any season we win fewer than 8 games is a disappointment. That doesn't mean I think we will win that many

I think any year you don't win at least 8 games is a disappointing year.

That said a disappointing year can still exceed expectations. I set the bar at 5 wins next year. If we win less then I will be beyond disappointed. If we win more, then I will be pleased with where we are.

I think 6-7 wins next year is good improvement and aiming for 9+ in 2014 is a good standard.

At Auburn, if the team plays with 100% effort and the coaches put the players in the right places, NO game is an "automatic loss". Sorry.

But you can feel free to unconditionally surrender prior to battle if you feel it appropriate.
