I could be wrong but I thought MSU gave him a cushy desk job within the athletic department after they relieved him of coaching... Was that just a rumor ?

ETA: nevermind... He is retired

Odd that you'd hope the winningest MSU coach all time and at least 3rd best coach behind McCarthy and Williams would land at a divisional rival.

He won 1 NCAA Tourney game in his last 7 seasons...2 NCAA's his last 7 seasons

And a clusterfrick of defections, team drama, and a very undisciplined program that didnt even lift weights

He was hell on wheels early on. 11 out of 14 postseason appearances and five NCAAs in a row look pretty awesome to me now.

State blows. Stansbury is Coach K / Roy Williams at any other school.

Do it.

Plus there would no shortage of money for recruits there. Stansbury busted their fund on Mario Austin but it paid off initially.

Standsbury's problem was that he could only get one bought player at a time through our compliance department run by the NCAA equivalent of Ebeneezer Scrooge. Every fricking head case in the country that Duke, NC and Kentucky would pass on he was all over like Hugh Freeze at an all night athlete sleepover.

Here's the Stansbury break down. He can't coach offense worth a damn. Didn't run a single play at all. He did so well early on because he demanded defensive intensity and rebounding from his team. In his latter years, he stop demanding anything from his players because he became complacent. His team were the most out of shape in the conference towards the end of his career. He never allowed our strength and conditioning coach to work the players out. Coach Akins has since stated that this season was the first time he was able to work with players his way since Richard Williams was there.
