The best TX DT for 2014. It hurts but not end of world. Good get for A&M.

Then quit saying "Barner" and the like. I wonder if you even graduated from Bammer or if you're just another t-shirt fan.

Bama actually plays Auburn every year....A&M does not play Texas, and I think every SEC school would agree that the aggy little pet names are annoying and childish. You have too many and they have no relevance to the schools you DO play. Also, just because someone calls you out about the stupid little pet names, doesn't automatically make them a "texas fan", and doesn't need to be told to "go back to (insert whatever longhorn forum here)". It just proves that texas still owns a&m and makes you paranoid at all times if you feel in the slightest challenged by anyone.

More than just the #1 DT, the ONLY really elite DT in the State this year. Really thin year on the interior line, easily the leanest position on D in Texas for 2014. The next best is hoping Solomon Thomas grows into a DT role but he's probably ideally a SDE. The issue relating to Texas is they got no one at DT last year in a pretty deep year for DT whereas A&M got 3 of the Top 4.

If games are won or lost at the line of scrimmage (and I hold to that theory, I remember when the Cowboys were good it was because Jimmy Johnson had the lines stacked) then Texas is really in trouble.

Last year they got no one at DT like you mentioned in a year where the DT position was deep. They also lost their top recruit when Bama flipped OL A'Shawn Robinson.

This year, with a very thin DT crop, Texas loses out on who may be the only elite DT as you mentioned, more importantly someone who grew up a Texas fan but they couldn't keep him. If you think you heard that before, remember A&M also picked up a long-time Texas fan in OL Tank Davis (from Garland Lakeview Centennial, my SO's alma mater, had to get that in for her).

It doesn't matter how good your QB is if he's always flat on his back, or how bad the other team's QB is if you can't put pressure on him.

I totally agree. I have been saying this for years. It's not the case, but it makes it seem to everybody else like we have some kind of inferiority complex.

to me it is just Texas or UT.

UT is in the past, lets move on.

I don't know why you guys are freaking out.

You're going to get Thomas, Adams, Alaka, D. Johnson, Nick Watkins, Jarrett Johnson (maybe), and several other highly rated guys.

I'm worried about D-Line recruiting more than anything else. Zero DL commits last year, only one so far this year in Roberson. We'll get Thomas I think, and I was feeling confident about Johnson until this weekend. Have no idea what we're doing at DT since it looks like we're going to wiff on all the decent DT prospects again this year, barring any late bloomers

The DT concern is valid; the concern about defensive recruiting in general is not.

meh, LB is just as ugly. They've taken a few JAGs but the last 3 classes have zero difference makers (I like Jinkens but he's just undersized and that's not something that can ever be fixed). And they aren't even giving these kids a luxury of shirting them right now. They desperately need Alaka (and for Hampton to qualify but he's a Jinkens clone anyway). This is actually a great LB class in-state and it's possible they may miss on all of them.

Their defense looks bad, but even more disconcerting for them, the foundation has major cracks as the guys they are lining up don't have the talent of the guys they are playing now at almost any position. DE still looks good I guess. Scariest part for them is they may have a decent year this year and keep all the principles in place adding another year of deterioration underneath the surface.

STFU.. like bama fans would stop talking shite about auburn if they stopped playing.

We played texas for over 100 years... We won't ever stop hating them, or laughing at their expense.

Texas has some real fundamental problems right now that they aren't even beginning to address. Mack and DeLoss are still acting like it's 2005 and Texas owns the world so every top recruit is praying nightly they get a Texas offer. The atmosphere of entitlement and lack of understanding of how the world has shifted is pervasive. The best example to illustrate it to me is how Texas, A&M, and Bama all have redone their weight rooms. Watch the 3 videos about them:

Bama

A&M

Texas

Don't get me wrong, Texas has a fine facility but if Mack and Co are acting as though this new "upgrade" makes Texas the best facility around it's not only wrong it makes them look out of touch. How Texas has let this kind of thing happen with the money in the AD is mind boggling, they literally have just fallen asleep at the wheel.

There are lots of other factors as well such as the number of high profile recruits that have just gone into the abyss at Texas in recent years and the change in what "success" means. I mean Mack acted like they just won the Big 12 after the KU win.

Now Texas will eventually decide to put out some new and shiny facilities on par with the rest but the problem is by that time they will be coming from behind and stuck in the Big 12. They are going to have to go through a lot of pain to get there though. DeLoss needs to go. Mack needs to go. Most importantly though Texas MUST make the right hires to replace them and that is going to be the most difficult part of the process. They also need to get the fans, alums, team, and Admin all on the same page. Right now far too many are still in denial. You listen to Mack or DeLoss and they are still acting like "We're the Joneses" when they just aren't anymore.
