I tend to focus less on how many play makers a team has, and more so on the defensive strategy. No offense is going to attack the same way. So what is the most versatile defense?

My best guess would be Nickel, 4-2-5 or 3-4, but Im no defensive coach.

I would say 3-4. 4-2-5 maybe but I haven't really watched it. I'll get to see at least 12 games of it this year though.

You can do more from a 3-4.

3-3-5 is good all around against the pass. but a good run game will make it ineffective.

And if you don't know anything about defenses why make threads like this where you have no clue what you are talking about?

4-3 just because of the type of talent colleges usually have.

I never said I didnt know anything. I know a little. It was merely a topic I thought warranted a discussion. Why does that get your panties in a bunch?

I don't think the scheme really matters that much in the grand scheme of things. I think having the players that fit into your scheme and are disciplined is more beneficial .

true. for 90% of CFB teams, they can't really run a 3-4 effectively. Either they don't have the recruiters or they don't have the location (the South). you got to have a NG and you got to have 7-9 good LBs..

1 good NG is just as hard as finding 3-4 really good LBs

Oh absolutely. It never hurts to have disciplined players. Im just not sure what defense is the "best" defense. I know 3-3-5 inside out. Its a more conservative approach than say a 4-3. In 3-3-5, the strategy is to let the offense make the first mistake, by giving up small amounts of yards. Before they know it, its 3rd and 8.

But Ive seen what a mediocre Ole Miss team can do with a 4-2-5, and its very impressive.
