That's funny, I have Math / aerospace undergrad, trying to finish up my math phd requirements while working. Really just to prove to myself that I can get one. but my entire family is straight business and actually really struggles with math.

I was helping my brothers in their college courses when I was just starting high school. I am just able to understand patterns and logic easily and math just always made sense to me.

Discovering mathematical patterns and logic is what Scott Flansburg is all about. It works for him.

I was just wonderig who all other than me has math degrees? Not trying to sound uppity or like I am smarter or anything. (shocking that I'm not trying to flame isn't it.)

I'm just curious because I don't meet to many math people who also love football enough to be on this board.

Sound uppity all you want, you've agreed with me in this thread, so that makes you brilliant.

About to graduate with a degree in EE and a math minor. I don't really find this whole mental math thing that interesting though. I like using Matlab for everyhing.

When I was there, A&M eliminated the ability to get a math minor from engineers. They realized it was pointless and believed a well educated engineer doesn't need 3 more classes to get a minor, our curriculum wasn't doing it's job if it didn't teach engineers well enough on their own, a math minor should be implied in an engineering major.

Matlab is really cool. Excel is still my favorite. Everyone should learn a little visual basic.

Luckily I have enough confidence in my abilities to not need me intellectual standing reinforced by anonymous message board posters.

I do thank you for the vote of confidence though.

I started adding like that in 2nd grade. Seriously. I remember explaining how I added to my mom and she didn't understand why I did it that way.

I don't understand the 0-9 thing though, and the last paragraph sounds like that guy might be taking too much acid.

I suppose it's a matter of opinion. If you don't mind running around completely nude on campus at 1 am, ending up sitting on a sidewalk as blood pours from your face looking at the cops and paramedics that are surrounding you as they ask "What happened? Who did this to you?" and being completely incapable of answering them because you believe that existence is like traveling down a "string of time" that you cannot change, but can only move forward/backward on, then winding up in a futuristic space station (it was actually the ER), and finally, after many more hours, getting a ride home in a cab, still crusty with blood and wearing nothing but a hospital gown, walking into your wide open front door and realizing that you are not, in fact, in an alternate universe and will not have to confront that universe's "real" you... then maybe there really is no point for you where it's "too much acid". But that was it for me.

I don't regret it, but it was too much fricking acid.

edit: sorry about the long run-on sentence, but it's the only way to get it out without writing a damn novel
