The conclusion that I have come to that makes the most sense to me is this. Someone at Butchug U had to make some type of deal /blackmailed someone very high up the VU ladder back in the day to allow them to become the “Tennessee” that we all have come accustomed to. They where the 1 team that had the most to gain from a Vanderbilt downfall; it has proven so through the years. There is no way on God’s green earth that they could have achieved what they did had VU continued on the path that it was on.

This is the only way I could justify the way their program has deteriorated with the streak of “bad juju” that has befallen them and our rise from the ashes at nearly the exact same time. As my mama say’s “God don’t like ugly”. I think there is something to that in this case.

This would make a great investigative documentary as it one of the greatest mysteries in NCAA football history I believe.

Vandy was dominating Tennessee before the Vols hired General Neyland. After that, Vandy just seemed to not give a shite anymore. Vanderbilt was a force back in the civil war days.....

Don't get them started. They have their fair share of outright obnoxious fans when they start to win, just like everybody else. They want to act like they're different from the rest of the SEC, but they're really not. Lived around the corner from Vandy when Cutler was there and when Johnson had his good run a few years ago. Their fans are almost always very nice and fun to be around and then they start winning and the few screws start to come loose. This has usually been reserved for basketball at Memorial Gym (that freakin place, don't get me started) but has started to come out in football too since 2005.

If Vandy would TRY, they could easily take over the state and be a solid football program.... In the past they have just settled for leeching off the success of the SEC....

No one but the Vandy Alums think we are different. We dont even like each other tbh. I have been banned from a couple VU boards for not being a stuck up arse clown. Trust me us common folk can get down with the best of em

They've started to really rope in talent from across TN. They've hit Memphis hard at a time when that area is finally producing the talent it should for as many people are there. Vandy can easily remain very strong in the state as long as UTk is mediocre. A couple good seasons by UT though, coupled with a bad one for Vandy and the whole system probably reverts back to the way it's been. That is what Vandy has to change. They have to build "staying" power enough to write off a bad season.

We are finally getting SEC caliber players. 1 more solid class and we will have enough talent throughout to maintain.

good on you

I have a ton of friends/family friends that went there. Great people to be around. But, you're right, there's not much worse than a stuck up Vandy fan who acts like they're "above it" but freaks out and goes all Gump on everybody when they start winning. That being said, we all have those loose screws. great fanbase and a great community.
