No, that's not true. "They" could not have had Ray Tanner at the time, Skip even said that. Just like Texas went after Tanner when they were putting feelers out there to replace Augie Burrito after 2010, and Ray turned them down even after being offered twice as much money.
So your claim, while understandable coming from you as a LSU fan, is patently incorrect.
All Gamecock fans remember well when Skip made a trip out here even when he was ready to replace Smoke ... Tanner turned him down then, in what was that, 2005, 2006? And Tanner and Skip are very very close, very tight. I think they coached the PanAm games together, or maybe the OLympic Team or something like that, I can't remember.
