I guess after being in or around the op national top 10 all season, we're fortunate to be hosting the regional. Although if we get drummed out of the SEC tourney quickly, we could lose that possibility. I'm afraid making a quick exit from the SECT is not too far out. We just do not have anyone that step up to the bigger challenges this season.....

OK, we will be hosting St. Louis, Liberty, and guess what - our old friends Clemson once again in our regional. Clemson and Liberty are slated to open regional play Friday (May 31st) at 1:00 pm, then we take on St. Louis at 7:00 pm. Both games will be shown online on ESPN3...

This will be a pretty tough regional....Kyle Peterson has named it the toughest of the lot. Both the Flames and Billikins are coming off winning their respective conference tournaments and 5-game winning streaks. Clemson on the other hand is on a current 5-game losing streak, but they are our in-state rivals who have a lot of angst about beating us at long last in the postseason....

We opened our season against Liberty and barely won that series, all being 1-run deciding games that we took the first 2 4-3 and 8-7...

How well the Gamecocks play in this regional will go a long ways in showing how much heart this team has, IMO. They need to make a statement...

Great win by the Cocks today.

Belcher had an awesome game, only allowing a couple hits and 1 run though 6 and a third. Webb K'd 5 of the last 6 batters.

We had 12 hits, 1 HR and a 4 run 8th inning. Vergason has to tighten up, Saiko went off today, and that was great to see.

Man, I had a bad feeling on that 2nd error, when they knotted it up. Then we come right back and score 4.

is Liberty pitching their ace tonight or did they use him against Clemson?

I know Mont has the mound for us.

It's kind of hard to say....Chase Herndon was their Friday starter into the season - those are usually considered the "Ace" pitcher in college baseball - but he suffered an injury during the season, and Richardson was put in his place and has done well. I don't know if Hearndon has healed and is back pitching or if he's still out of action.

I believe Brooks Roy (7-5, 3.39 ERA) has been their regular Saturday, or #2, pitcher. Haven't heard if he will start for them today or not...

We're in a good spot because as you know Monty was our "Ace" pitcher for Fridays before he got injured....Belcher was the Sunday starter but jumped ahead of Holmes when Jordan got injured. Jordan now seems to be back to 100% so it's like we now have TWO Friday night-caliber starters for us...

Gamecocks 19-3!!! Almost a shutout until Koumas gave up the HR. Awesome game by the team, no errors and 19 hits! Mont set a career record with 11 K's. It's GREAT to be a Gamecock!

Fantastic game all around for the Yardcocks! Can't believe that Roy, Liberty's pitcher tonight, went 5.1 innings versus USC in our season-opening series and only gave up 1 run. I think he was totally overwhelmed by the crowd and the occasion tonight.

Montgomery had a career performance tonight....his confidence has to be sky-high. We also got a no-doubter win tonight so both Westmoreland and Webb were able to rest up, and we pitched guys the final 2 innings that haven't been seen much this season. Don't know why Knabb wasn't used, but no matter.

Hated to see Koumas struggle so much tonight in an easy outing - I know it's the postseason, but there was no way he would put the game in jeopardy tonight, and he's been there done that the previous 2 seasons. But his pitches were very rarely in the strike zone tonight, and he was late in most counts. Most strikes the batters got in the count were swings at balls. When he was forced to dial it back some in order to get the ball over the plate, he got burned bad...

Not sure who else beyond Wynkoop we'd use as a starter if it goes past 3 games for us. I guess we might be saving Holmes for that contingency. Hopefully it won't come to that however: Big decision for Clemson is do they pitch Firth against Liberty in their first game and save Crownover for us - and risk suffering their 2nd and eliminating loss of the Regional with their #2 pitcher never taking the mound, or do they use him to ensure getting to the afternoon game, and then face crafty Lefty Wynkoop (they haaaaate lefties) who is our #3 pitcher with their #3 pitcher? This was what JackLegg tried to do using Erwin in their Game #1 vs. Liberty Friday instead of one of their Big Three, and it cost them big...

The answer has already been delivered: Matthew Crownover (7-2, 2.05 ERA, 66.0 IP, 42 K, 16 BB, .244 OPBA) will face Liberty in their 1PM elimination game.

This is positive news for us, as if Clemson advances to the afternoon game versus us, they will have used up their top 2 pitchers leaving Scott Firth (6-5, 3.23 ERA, 61.1 IP, 41 K, 18 BB, .269 OPBA) or Clate Schmidt (3-4, 5.27 ERA, 54.2 IP, 25 K, 24 BB, .340 OPBA) to face our Wynkoop.

Neither Firth nor Schmidt poses as big an obstacle as Crownover would have....although with the way our bats have been going, it might not matter...

Clate Schmidt

He did well against us.

Hopefully the 1st game will go into extra innings and they'll work their best relievers. Although, I'm still not sure it matters. I think we are just too much for clemson at any level.

I don't want to get too overconfident but I think we've got this regional locked down! Impressive outing by Mont and our bats.

The way I like to look at this is:

Liberty doesn't have the mid week starters that can hang with Wynkoop and neither does Clemson. If we even go to another Monday Game, we're putting in our 4th starter, against possibly the other team's 5th or 6th.

Winning the first 2 games of a Regional is HUGE. Just going off of the past statistics for teams that have done that, we have over an 80% chance of moving on.

We won the regional with a 6-4 win over Liberty on Monday. Holmes did alright for a guy coming back to the mound from yesterday, Webb does what he does. The hitting wasn't as prolific as our last matchup with them, but I think the guys were just looking to get this game/regional over with and start preparing for the Super's.

It's Great to be a Gamecock!

27 straight post season home wins for USC!

We should be hosting the Supers, but it looks like FAU blew their lead...twice.

yeah I watched that game at the bar and I bought a round of shots each time FAU took the lead on those HRs. all for nothing

I don't know much about FAU, but if they can take UNC to the edge then we are able to tip them over.

I don't know, but you might try to RA the OP and request it, or look at the Help Board to see if there's any info.

Think you just request it to be not-needed, once enough ppl do it or it happens enough times it'll automatically unsticky.

Think that's how it works.
