In base salary from 2.8 mil/yr to 3.2, also extended his contract 1 year from 2016 to 2017.

They may as well put an infinity symbol in the end date box.

I'm not, you generally need a coach to be under contract for at least 4 years in advance for recruiting purposes. You want a HC to be able to tell a kid that the university plans on keeping him for the duration of the kid's stay.

Why? It only helps us with recruiting.

Also, keep in mind that after we extended his contract after 2011 he has a VERY weak buyout if he is fired or wants to leave.

I can't speak for Ruckus but personally I'd like to see something other than an "almost" in the conference championship column before I pushed it out another year. Not to mention some verification that 2012 wasn't a fluke and we don't start out next season 1 and 3.

Unless the buyout provision is as weak as has been advertised, I'd prefer we avoid some multi million buyout expense just in case things go downhill.

Well as was stated before it doesn't look good for a coach with double digit wins the last 2 years and back to back trips to the title game to have less than 4 years on a deal. Just not good for recruiting.

Also, Richt has been here for 12 years. He's not exactly a gamble...

I don't think these kids give a crap if CMR's contract expires in 2016 or 2017. If it was 2014 or something then okay...but 2016? There was no need to make a statement like that IMO.

I don't hate CMR...but don't love him either. The last two years we had to have other teams lose to get a shot at the SECCG...so let's not pretend we manned up and put ourselves there. I just don't see any reason to sweeten the pot after the last 4 years....that's all I'm saying.

I'm stuck between liking cmr and what he stands for and bringing in a fireball of a coach to take us to the promised land. Maybe I'm greedy but no natty since the year of my birth is too long for such a proud institution. I'm not of the fire Richt mindset nor do I want a continuation of "almost got it" and "maybe next year".

Squatch said it before I could. And gatorhata I agree he's not a gamble, does that mean you are satisfied with the current state of the program?

Am I satisfied? If satisfaction is a championship them obviously not. But that's also means that a ton I other teams are not satisfied either.

I'm also not of the mindset that Richt will never win a title. I truly believe he can. I'm satisfied with where the program is headed. We had a speed bump in 09-10 and have come out of that looking pretty good. We're heading in the right direction and I trust that CMR knows what he is doing.

Am I satisfied? No, I want a championship. But am I upset that we extended his contract a year and gave him a 400k raise? No. He deserves it.

Far and away my least favorite word in the English language.

People don't have to earn anything anymore; they just deserve things.

This year's team should be in the mix all season as long as the defense isn't soft as tissue against the run again.

What Finley said! (Still haven't figured out how to quote on my damn phone) I think Richt can win one as well, but what lights the fire? If I did a mediocre job in my field I sure as frick wouldn't get a raise! Would you?

When you make your first $400,000 get back to me and let me know if you still think he deserved it. That's a healthy "bump" for a guy who was on the hot seat only a year ago and saw a number of key recruits pull a Keyser Soze on signing day.

No need to beat the CMR horse any more, but with the exception of 2007 there been a lot of mediocre seasons over the last decade and we're only one year removed from a 4 loss year. Did his comp package get cut after the 7 loss season?

Ok well I think he's earned it. I tend to agree with what you just said as well. Poor wording on my part.

He hasn't done mediocre at all. He outperformed 12 other coaches in the conference this year and 9 the year before. That's not mediocre.
