With A&M on the rise with recruiting the state of Texas and the exposure they are getting from being in the SEC, how long before the Longhorns try to join the league? I think within the next 3-4 years they will make a push for it. Especially if they continue to suck and A&M continues their upward trend.

They will go independent first. Joining the SEC will never happen.

Try as they might I don't think we allow it. I hope not. Combine their arrogance with aTm's and yikes...you've got another load of Gumps to deal with.

Flatland Gumps - I call dibs on their future nickname just in case.

You'll love having Texas as a conference member.

Minimum of 12 years (when the grant of rights is over) if ever. The grant of rights is iron clad and no conference will want a team who has no rights to televise their games.

Screw Texas and their shitty fans. They have the arrogance of Bama fans without the trophies to back it up. They are also the least knowledgeable fans of any major program that I have ever met.

Their egos will NEVER allow them to join what they think is a culturally and academically "inferior" conference.

Besides that, they have three GUARANTEED "no" votes if they try (Texas A&M, Arkansas, Missouri).

To be frank, I can't imagine a school that would consider voting "yes".

Their egos are too big to even try to join the SEC

I've been saying this forever. They are one of the lowest football IQ fanbases out there.

I would assume they are out on the same basis that Clemson and Florida State are out.

Warning:

If the SEC ever lets those asswipes in, I will personally go on a naked, arse-raping, pooh-flinging suicide mission of necrophilia and bestiality. Some of you might get hurt.

Had they wanted to be here they already would be here. Not necessarily as an alternate for A&M joining, in fact if there was any scenario where the SEC would double down in a state, taking both Texas and A&M would have been it (remember the SEC wants to improve its academic cred; getting two top 20 research schools, both with AAU membership status and large alumni bases, would not get passed up).

Having said that, if the Big 12 does break up Texas and OU head to the PAC-(whatever number it ends up being).

Arkansas got away first chance they could.

Their chance of voting Texas in is as much as their desire to return to the Big 12 (either alone or with LSU)--ZERO.

When was Arkansas ever a member of the Big 8+4?

Don't confuse the Southwest Conference with the Big 12.

TCU, SMU, Houston, and Rice were all left to rot by the Richards administration.

Texas to the SEC only has appeal on the surface, as soon as you peel down layers though it makes no sense for either party.

For the SEC:

Texas' largest value point, the Texas market, is already being delivered by A&M. Texas only increases the share of that market. Since the value though is being able to get the SEC Network picked up by major carriers though Texas isn't going to be necessary between A&M and the significant amount of SEC Alumni and fans in Texas (esp LSU in Houston and Arkie in DFW).

The LHN. It isn't going to just go away easily and it is a complete nonstarter.

Texas is a horrible partner. They always want the attention and they want the rules slanted in their favor. SEC folks whine about Bama but Bama is a pushover compared to Texas. The world must revolve around them. Can you imagine if reporters went to Mal Moore for comments on the direction of the SEC instead of Mike Slive? Yeah, that's how it works in the Big 12. A&M, Arkie, and Mizzou all left at least partly because of Texas and many Big 12 teams would bolt if they had a landing spot (including OU which tried and failed to go Pac 12). How many AD's do you know of that actually say, "We are the Joneses" to the press and firmly believe it? That's Texas.

Texas is a horrible cultural fit. They have low football IQ fans that think the world revolves around them. They don't like traditions. They look down on the South as backwards and beneath them. They think they are Cal Berkeley in academics and Bama in football when they aren't close to either. They expect you to worship them and be in awe of them.

Why it doesn't make sense for Texas:

They would go from being the dominant power in the conference to just another member. Whereas A&M is happy to be an equal partner and earn our way into Big 6 Texas doesn't play that way. The greatness of the SEC is even though Bama is arguably the most powerful school you have at least 6 others that are right there with it and thus no one can control the conference. Each of those power schools brings something to the table. You also have the tradition of the Southern schools sticking together. That just won't work for Texas.

Texas would be admitting defeat and severely humbled if they joined the SEC. They would not only have to give up the LHN but they would be following in the footsteps of A&M which is simply unthinkable to them.

A&M stuck Texas with the kids in the divorce. The biggest mistake Texas made when A&M left was to say that as long as they stayed in the Big 12 it was viable. Politically that means that if they leave they have to find a home for Tech, Baylor, and now TCU. Had they left with A&M originally maybe they could pull that off because the combined political power of A&M and Texas can do anything but unless A&M decides to support Texas there is no way they can just screw over 3 Texas schools, one of which is a large public school. They got their wish of owning the Big 12 without A&M or Nebraska to be a thorn in their side and now they have to deal with the headaches as well.

Texas has better options. They can expand the Big 12 by picking the bones of the ACC after the Big 1G and SEC finish killing it off and make it in to a respectable conference that they still control. There is nothing Texas would like better than to get schools like FSU, Clemson, etc. left without a viable option and forced to join the Big 12 under whatever terms Texas gives them. Their backup plan is to take Tech, OU, and OSU and go to the Pac. They could even go to the Big 1G theoretically where they fit best in terms of the academic side and would love to be a part of the Big 1G research consortium. They provide a lot more value to all those conferences than the SEC.
