agree on Yeldon but no way on Clowney. No defensive (only) player has ever won the heisman. To break that streak you would probably need to lead your team to the BCS champ game and have completely ridiculous highlights in the biggest games along the way.
Let's ignore the fact that Teo was totally undeserving and consider that he was an incredibly hyped player on the highest profile team in the country with a disney-esque personal story and the meme was that he led his team to the BCS title game....and he still finished a distant 2nd. I don't really think Clowney has a shot because he will never get the hype needed for the award. Sucker bet imo

They don't give Heismans to players who play for serial choke artists.
So you think Driskell and Bell should be on the list ahead of Gurley?

JFF or AJ , which ever wins the west.

Just dropped 100 bucks on Driskel.

Braxton Miller seems like an obvious choice, but I don't see him having better stats than Johnny, which could make things messy, even if the Buckeyes are undefeated.
Worse stats in the Big 10 just doesn't say Heisman at all.

That's exactly why I think he has a chance:
1. So many people were crying leading up to the presentation about how they should outright state the award is offensive player only if Teo doesn't win.
2. Teo was terrible and still got 2nd. Obviously the votes are there to back up the clamoring for a defensive winner.

He only wins it if he goes undefeated. So basically Vegas is saying A&M has about 4:1 odds to go undefeated through the SEC, which means they are probably 7 point favorites against Alabama on September 14th.
I can't really argue with Vegas, they have proven to know their stuff a time or two.

If A&M wins the west, JFF will repeat. However, that is far from a sure thing, because A&M faces Bama early on while trying to rebuild the defense. Hope he does repeat, because he is gone after next year as long as he doesn't have a sophomore slump. More likely is Braxton.
Would love to see Clowney win it, so the whole no defensive player wins it arguement goes away.

And Teo didn't win and it wasn't close. Even with all the sobbing. The fact is there is a defensive player every few years that people say "has to win." But they never do. Teo only got the votes he did because he plays for Notre Dame. You honestly think a player for South Carolina is going to get that sort of media backing?

Teo was not terrible. He played little league opponents and did just fine. The vote was before the Bama game when the media dubbed him the best defensive player in the nation and the inspirational leader of a fairy tale MNC run. Silly to use what we know now as reason why he didn't win.

You act like 2nd isn't close.

I seem to remember a player from Nebraska getting a similar backing.

Yes fine I'll correct myself, he was mediocre. Not anywhere near deserving of 2nd place in Heisman and all the other awards he actually won.
Point is Clowney is 10x the player Teo was and could potentially ride the clamoring for a defensive player to a win. Do I think it's more likely than not? No. Do I think he's better than an 18-1 shot? Yeah.

It'll take JD 15 sacks and 100 tackles for him to win it all while being double and triple-teamed all season long.
What JD has going for him is "The Hit" will be replayed for his first four or five games.

You know that's not what they are saying at all?
Especially considering Alabama is +325 (13/4) while Texas A&M is +1000 (10/1) for the 2013 BCS National Championship.

If we're picking someone we already know, I'm going with Braxton Miller. Meyer will get the most out of him his junior year and his schedule is such a cakewalk to pad stats left and right.
This
It sets up perfectly for him. They will be in the national title hunt, and he plays a lot of really shitty football teams.

I can't wait until Saban kicks his arse in the Natty. I hope they go undefeated this year so we get to play CUM for all the marbles. Saban will make his arse quit in another conference and it will be awesome.

If Bama is in the NC again next year I can see them giving it to AJ mcarron as a "lifetime achievement" award ala Ricky Williams.
