Bring up your child with your team (no its not an SEC team but you can see what's going on)

Will your child's first words be War Eagle, LSU or Go Dawgs or perhaps the learn the gator chomp or Hog Call before he or she knows how to walk?

Will your child know the entire fight song by age 3 and already hate the colors of your rival?

If you do, was it because you were raised with the choice made for you?

Or are you more progressive and think the child should make his or her own choice. (just kidding, that's stupid)

My children can go to school where they want to go. I won't pay for many places other than A&M though.

Wife's got her first bun in the oven now. My kid will be exposed to all things Auburn of course, and will see both his/her parents yelling at the TV every Saturday in the fall.

I assume he/she will absorb our fandom, but if they don't you can't make them be a fan. If my kid got a great scholarship to LSU or bama and not to AU, I could live with that.

The last line was a good one.

I have thought long and hard about this. I used to say I will not even try to get them to watch football, because 99% of being a fan is watching a season that falls short.

Then, I hit myself in the face.. with an iron hammer, probably 5 times the first time. Next, I realized if my boy takes to watching sports with dad and likes his team... i will make him drink crimson blood from our chalice and praise the Lord Bear and Savior St Nick. Then we will enjoy the rest of our lives in misery and joy pulling for our Tide and drinkin beer! WOOHOO!!!!

but i gotta get a son first.

That would be my worst nightmare. I'd try to hate it but there's no reasonable way to be really mad at your kid getting free education. The only thing that could make it worse is.... what if you kid got an ATHLETIC scholarship to only your rival... could you bring yourself to wear those colors?

Yep.

If they grow up to be a piss-ant teenager and change team affiliation, well, it's their life and whatnot.

But you can damn well bet I'm stacking the deck in UGA's favor early on

Hell no. But I would just wear neutral clothes and cheer on my kid. I wouldn't be doing that school's cheers either.

I have 3 kiddos; all under 5.

All of them Call the Hogs, demand to watch Arkansas sports, and my son recently got in trouble for saying 'F LSU', with his Momma.

I won't make my kid(s) go to Arkansas. I'd be cool if they did but it's their life not mine.

That's pretty funny. I wonder if she was offered to Auburn at all? I would be willing to bet that big bro wouldn't wear red and white to watch her play. I could see Lutz sitting in the stands wearing all navy and orange in the middle of all the Bama fans just to be an arse. Seems to be his personality to do stuff like that as a goof.

ETA: IF I had a son that had the options to go play football where he wanted, I would advise him to make it a business decision. If he were a stand out enough at linebacker or secondary, you bet Saban's defense would be at the top of the list even though I am an Auburn alumni.

Interesting thread...my children will go to AU games, but not unless they make huge strides as far as academics are concerned he/she probably won't be going to AU. The out of state tuition...what will they be in 30 years?

I got one going to Alabama, one going to Auburn, and one at Belmont. I told the one going to Auburn that she can go but just not to come back (g). I'm actually very proud of them all. The smartest and hardest worker is going to Auburn and the more social one is gong to Bama. The most spiritul one is going to Belmont. I also have another in HS who wants to go to school in Colorado. All of them were raised going to Bama games. I am just thankful they are all safe and healthy. RTR!!!!

Well said. They'll have memories of calling the hogs, but if they pursue higher education, I have 0 fricks to give where they want to go to school.
