I'm not sure we have.

This isn't a rah-rah Anthony Grant thread. I'm not as negative as some but I hate our offense, and would trade him for Gregg Marshall in a second. Forget the Bruce Pearl shite, it isn't happening.

But if you look back at what we were posting on here last year, none of us thought we were going to be that good. You could see it in the Florida game when Jamychal was suspended and Patric Young abused our post guys. It was beyond fricking obvious that our post was going to be a problem this year. And that's on Grant's big man recruiting.

I said constantly on here that he had to make the tournament last year because we weren't going to make it this year. And theoretically we still have a chance of making it this year.

Lacey, Releford, Cooper, Randolph (and you could even argue Gueye here) have progressed this year.

We should have beaten Cincy. I know most of us were watching the SECCG but I was watching that on ESPN 3 at the same time, and we really should have won. Who knows what would have happened if we had won that game?

Again, no rah rah, I'm not a huge fan of Grant at this point. I'm just not sure it's been as disappointing as some have made it out to be. And yes, the SEC sucks but who really thought it was going to be great?

Rambling, too long, didn't read, etc.

I know Grant has been here for a while but I dont think we have been able to get the type of guys he needs to run his defense or offense. I mean Trevor Lacey may be our 2nd best player but he doesnt fit our style at all. We need more athletic guys for the press to work. To answer your question I dont think we have underachieved. I think some fans thought that our guy were a lot better than they are. People see Lacey and Pollard being rated 5 stars and think that means they are supposed to be program changers.

Eh, Lacey's been pretty good. Whether or not he fits our style, without him we'd have at least two more losses, probably more.

Pollard's been a huge disappointment, but I have to think there was a reason why a lot of teams were recruiting him. It might take two more years for him to really reach his potential though.

That is what I have been wondering this entire time. I think it's more due to the fact that we started the season off so well that everyone got their hopes up.

Yea I saw at the beginning of the year people were saying things like we shouldnt lose more than 5 games and shite like that. Thats crazy. Maybe if we had Tony Mitchell still. It was just too many ifs this year. If our freshman stepped up. If our big man stepped up. If Pollard lived up to the hype. We just need to have someone who can break a defense down or either a big man who can pass it from the post.

You have to be placed up high somewhere to end up underachieving. To say Bama has underachieved would not be accurate . Bama came into the season as a bubble team projection and that is exactly where they stand today. The prize is right in front of them with minimal hurdles in their way, it is just up to them if they can jump over.

Honestly considering how they have played, I am shocked at their record in the SEC. however, that is more of a testament of how bad the SEC is, and also dooms our chances of making the tourney.

Best case scenario is we win the games we should, and make the NIT.

Grant is going to have to do something about our big men moving forward.

I really dont have a problem with our big man. Gueye and the Swede give us something and they are developing but Jacobs man he just pisses me off. Just the look on his face makes me turn the tv.

I do believe that a truly great hire can do more for a basketball program than it can for a football program (assuming both programs have similar perceived limitations). Grant pretty clearly isn't that sort of transcendent coach.

Can we land that sort of coach? I don't know. It would have to be a fairly lucky find.

I don't know how to describe this season. I mean it's starts out with terrible roster management. Then we get unlucky and Carl gets hurt. We lose to Tulane and Mercer. That should never happen no matter how bad our roster is. Now we're playing better and winning games in the SEC. Then again, we knew our SEC schedule was set up extremely easy. With that said, I don't know how to define the season in regards to achieving or underachieving.

Other than a couple of games this team is fun to watch and I appreciate their effort.

We're one of the best defensive teams in the league and you're complaining about that too?

Not fun to watch for me..It is like watching paint dry. We are going to be a bubble team more then likely and those 3 losses to OOC teams will probably knock us out. We may have to go 14-4 or 13-5 in the sec and finish no worse then 4th and make it to Sat. in the SEC tourney

If we beat Tulane and Mercer no one is complaining nearly as much. This team has struggled at times when they have to battle, especially when Steele was out. Lacey and Releford are the biggest whiners. They spend half the game looking shocked with their hands on their heads all because they got called for a foul.

When we run our offense and the ball is on the strong side, could the guys on the weak side at least set down picks for each other?...something...anything....just standing and watching makes me crazy.

Our offensive sets put zero pressure on the defense for the most part.

Yes, we have underachieved. Not basing this on pre-season predictions but on where I think this program should be this far into Grant's tenure. I don't think programs/coaches should be celebrated or damned based on whether they over or under achieve . Some may remember the silly AU fans that were so happy with Chizik over achieving every year on the plains.

My first bball post ever on here, I strongly questioned Grant's recruiting philosphy(I was slammed then). Now three years later, this is his team and his players he recruited. The fact that Bama was a bubble team pre-season is not OK in my book. I still don't like his recruiting philosophy and of course we all now about his in-game decisions and offensive philosophy...

I gave him time to see what he would do with his players in the program... Would he really press all game? Run up tempo offense? Well now those have been answered along with some other glaring problems.

He will continue to wind 15-20 every year as long as his players will play D for him, I don't expect nothing more on a consistent basis.
