Considering how much we require our WRs to block and actually play when the ball isn't going their way, DQ would need to go through a transformation to see playing time.
The kid can ball but it ahs been repeated by everyone who has watched him that he takes more plays off than Clowney

Probably not, he'd be our #1 deep threat the day he steps on campus.

Sammie Coates is definitely more than serviceable as a deep threat and overall WR. I do not believe our coaches let him see the field unless he learns not to take plays off and block.
Not necessarily saying he will be stellar but he will at least make a marginal effort if he wants to play

Sammie has butterfingers. DQ has sticky-fingers. We can run the ball to the other side of the field
If DQ wants to play ball at a BCS school then wherever he goes his coaches will make him block. Maybe he won't be Jaylon Denson or Derek Winter out there, but as long as he puts in minimal effort to at least get in defender's way then it's hard to keep a weapon like that out of the game.
Things that can be fixed with coaching: Poor WR blocking
Things that can't be fixed with coaching: teh butterfingerz
Things that an offense can work around: #1 WR not blocking well
Things that can't be worked around: #1 WR with the butterfingerz

That's more of an issue with attitude. That's not really a coach-able trait. The kid isn't whiffing on blocks or making the wrong ones, he just isn't putting in the effort.

All valid points, but Coates won't be the #1 WR next year regardless of where DQ ends up.

on DQ, right now LSU is the only real threat and that's regardless of their QB sitch next year. The biggest thing going for them is Death Valley is 20 minutes from his parents house. He will be at the Ole Miss game this week though so that should help us.

I had attitude and effort coached into me in HS. But I was also a small white kid who needed those things , and who the coach didn't care if he ran off with extra workouts

Have you watched all of williams' games?... do you know if he's dropping passes? I bet I could put together a highlight video of sammy coates and make him look like he's got 'stickyfingerz' or whatever.
And I don't see all these drops from Coates anyway... at least not enough to label him with 'butterfingerz'... dude had four or five catches last week for over a 100 yards in a freaking downpour.

I like Coates a lot but he couldn't hold DQs jock strap.

In terms of athletic ability?... no question who's better. In terms of being a complete WR?... that remains to be seen.
Everybody falls in love with the 'next great thing', but we'll all see what happens. The world is litered with athletic WRs who didn't amount to sh*t, for one reason or another.
eta: fwiw, coates is probably a couple years younger than williams (although I can't found out exactly how old DW is)... coates is 20.

In terms of drafability DQ has 1st round potential. Sammie Coates would be lucky to make a roster. Everyone always overhypes our best wr's. D. Adams, E. Blake, and now Coates.. Just because they're the best on our team doesn't mean they have NFL potential.

quote:Please stop. You are making yourself look worse with each post on this issue. Looks like you been drinking some old AE kool-aid. DQ is a much better WR than Coates ever dreamed of. DQ is not just athletic ability. He can run all the routes and makes all the plays...and unlike Sammie through last year at least DQ does not drop passes. For comparison, Cordarelle Patterson was mainly athletic ability and look what he did. DQ is much more polished as a WR than CP so he even has a higher ceiling. DQ has not been 100% this year with hurt ankle, back, and tailbone but he is still putting up good numbers. Through 5 games he has 28 catches for nearly 400 yards and 6 TDs. Those numbers would be a good bit better if he was fully healthy. Even though I know Sammie is playing much better competition he has 17 less catches and the big stat, only 1 TD. Yes I know some of that is on Marshall's over throws but point still remains DQ is better than Sammie.

FTR Coates and DQ are probably around the same age as they were both in the 2011 high school class although I do not see the relevency in that issue.

Sure, in terms of draft potential, DQ is hands down the best.

They produced and were very very reliable targets. They also blocked downfield and took care of the ball. Looks to me as if you're caught up in draft position, I'm more concerned with overall AU offensive production.

I never stated they did.
