I'm guessing that Hart may opt out if he falls behind Drake and Henry, and Sims if he finds himself behind one or more of Bateman, Morris, and Del Rio. Plus a couple of guys who have already gotten their degrees and stand no chance of getting playing time this fall.

I seriously don't think we would have gotten to 85 without flat out cutting a couple of guys without the arrests though. At some point we have to take a class of 20 or 21.

The arrests certainly help. So who is he last 4?

Ming
Bonds
Atchison
Ely
Orr

Wouldn't be surprised if we saw more than four leave.

Would-be 5th year seniors will pretty much get us down to 85 at this point. We'll probably drop a little below 85 like last year with summer transfers/signees who fail to qualify.

And we can count on signing right around 25 every year with CNS unless the Big 10 signing rules are adopted by the NCAA.

Hate to hear that about Shinn. Poster on another board says that his best friend from high school is a JUCO QB who may be going to Texas Tech which could be what's driving his interest there.

I think Ming is supposed to graduate in May. Maybe he'll decide to give it up?

"Based on all the information we've received and gone through and tried to determine the future of the four guys that got in trouble, those guys are no longer associated with the football program," Saban said. "Their actions do not reflect the spirit and character that we want our organization to reflect. It's obviously very disappointing and unacceptable what happened.

"I also think that I've been really proud of over the last five years that our team has done a very good job and shown personal responsibility and how they represent the university, what they've done in the community, in the classroom, off the field. And they're going to continue to do as much as we can in personal development, character development in our program with education to try to help guys have a chance to be more successful in life.

"Some people learn by words, some people learn by consequences, some people can't learn."

Also, a statement released by UA:
“UA’s judicial review has been completed. The four students involved in the robberies on campus are no longer enrolled in UA"

WRs are gonna be at a premium on A-Day, as there are only 6 scholarship players scheduled to participate.

Kenny Bell
DeAndrew White(if he's 100%)
Chris Black
Amari Cooper
Raheem Falkins
Chris Jones

Shinn opted out, Woodson is suspended, Cyrus Jones is being moved to CB most likely, and Kevin Norwood is likely out of the Spring with a toe injury.

Wouldn't be shocked to see Dee Hart taking some snaps there if this is the case he's 100% as well. He's a solid passcatcher and they've flanked him out as a WR in practice and live action before. Plus, it could be a little easier on his surgically repaired knees.

WRs, CBs, and RBs could all be at a premium depending on how much guys like Hart, White, and Fowler are able to do. Not terribly unusual for spring training though. Big opportunity for Henry and Falkins.

Yeah, a lot of players(skill positions especially) often get small procedures done around February-March that they've been holding off to finish the season. Everyone at the Combine save Fluker had recently had some sort of surgery.

Fulton being out really gives Geno Smith a big chance to lock up a CB spot after finishing '12 hot.

Wonder if we'll get to see ACA's Parker Barrineau extensively in A-Day due to some injuries. He get talked up a lot as a scout team player.

Yep, I'm thinking Ranzell Watkins and possibly Caleb Castille could get some reps on D in dime packages.

I remember the Castilles said Caleb had the most potential out of all of them, but I guess that meant he had a lot farther to go to reach it.

I wish Nate McCallister was still on the team. He used to cut up in drills and on scout team. Wouldve been fun to watch with everybody being out

Subtracting Shinn and Woodson, that puts us at 86 by my calculations. Thinking Bozeman might get to come in this year if he's healthy enough

I honestly don't know why coaches ever give out scholarships to high school kickers and punters. Those positions can be really hit and miss and you can always find walk-ons to do good jobs at those positions. Walk-on kicker Jeremy Shelley turned out to be a better kicker than scholarship kicker Cade Foster. Walk-on punter Cody Mandell has become an excellent punter. With only 85 scholarships available, it's pretty fruitless to waste scholarship slots on unproven players at those positions. They should only be rewarded scholarships after they prove themselves as top players.

If we can find a walk-on that can do a good job, then sure, that's what we're going to do. But it just doesn't always work out that way which is when we offer a scholarship. There's a reason most big time programs have scholarship kickers and punters.
