You're talking about kids 18-22. No one, not even your almighty Saban can predict whether kids will do something stupid.

quote:11 out of Tennessee's 19 5 stars didn't pan out?
The other 13 have been total busts with the exception of Janzen Jackson and Gerald Riggs, Jr.
Unbelievable to have 11 5* busts in a 10-year period.
This does help to explain what in the hell is going wrong with Tennessee at the moment.
It's facts like these that keep me from getting too excited over NSD. This business is just too much of a crapshoot.

Yeah. A lot of people say that Tennessee can't recruit because of our poor in-state talent, but the fact of the matter is under Fulmer all of our top-flight talent got no coaching. Since then we have recruited at a top 12 or so level nationally, okay but not great, but we have had shite tons of attrition.
First we need to stabilize the attrition and then we should be back to consistent top 5-10 classes. Then it will be up to the staff to develop, which is where Fulmer failed.

Zeke Pike or Keihl Frazier, take your pick.
Coincidental that the first people you name are Auburn players, and NEITHER were 5 Stars.

These are all of UGA's 5* players per Rivals and their key stats since 2003...
Brandon Miller and Richard Samuel are really the only two on this list that I would consider to be 5* "busts".
quote:
Kregg Lumpkin, RB (2003)- 1,700 career rushing yards
Paul Oliver, CB (2003)- 7 career INT
Brandon Miller, LB/DE (2004)- 1 career sack
Matthew Stafford, QB (2006)- #1 draft pick
Reshad Jones, DB (2006)- 11 career INT
AJ Green, WR (2008)- 1st round draft pick
Richard Samuel, RB (2008)- 833 career rushing yards
Branden Smith, CB/ATH (2009)- 4 career INT; 1,049 all-purpose yards
Isaiah Crowell, RB (2011)- 850 rushing yards
Ray Drew, DE (2011)- 31 tackles in 2 seasons
John Theus, OT (2012)- started all 14 games
Josh Harvey-Clemons, DB (2012)- 14 tackles
Brandon Miller and Richard Samuel are really the only two on this list that I would consider to be 5* "busts".

MSU fan talking shite about Arkansas
Might want to beat us more than once or twice a decade. Houston fricking Nutt owned you guys when he was here and you still have never won in Arkansas.
ETA: Darius Winston, Russell Shepard

I think Russell Shepard might be the biggest bust of them all. He contributed some, but wasn't he the #1 overall recruit?

Difference between me an you besides the level of coolness is that I understand where my program is at right now.
You think Arky is a legit upper echelon sec school! Lol
That makes you an idiot. I'm done with you.
Next.

so a guy that scored about 10 TDs is the biggest bust in SEC history?
Damn.

What? I just said we are worlds better than MSU (because we are). That hardly means upper echelon SEC school, everyone is better than MSU. MSU is the worst program in the West and has an all time losing record.

This thread was a good read
I remember the long winding recruitment of Crowell and AU fans saying Saban can't predict what these kids do are right, but he also has a checklist and if talent outweighs attitude sometimes he'll take a flyer on a kid like Alonzo Lawrence (seriously no idea how he graduated from HS) or Rolando McClain who is now likely done in the NFL but didn't hear a peep out of him at Bama because of the support structure around these kids.

Andre Debose so far. The only route he can run is a fly route.

To be fair, "support structure" is another term for suppressing the actions and stories relating to our TP'sOS's.

UT is also on their 4th coach in the past 10 years. That will obviously lead to higher attrition.
I have a feeling AU is about to get a good deal of attrition. I think Malzahn knows this too and it is why he is signing more than we really have room for and not because they are can't miss guys we have to have. He just wants to make sure our numbers are sufficient after spring ball when I expect attrition to take a big uptick.
