From A&M president, via a meeting with Slive:
quote:
SEC Network- 2014 SEC network package almost done. Mike Slive to announce in next few days most likely. National and international exposure with SEC network. Exposure exposure exposure. Unique among all conferences in the structure of the deal. Won't give financial details, but it is substantial. The SEC dominance and exposure will be unparalleled. In a follow up question asking about the amount of money estimate, he simply said, "A lot." But then pointed out it won't happen over night. There are up front costs and gaining subscribers timeline. Mentioned $1-1.25 per subscriber. Said profitability quickly compared to others, but not overnight. It is a long term decision in the structure of how it is set up.

Initial numbers are larger than any other conference in football, including the B1G. Those are just the "initial" numbers. Definitely going to be RICH!

Huge difference between SEC Network and LHN though. LHN has 2-3 crap games for the entire year and a ton of garbage programming. They just figured folks would line up to pay a $1 a month for that.
The SEC Network will be partnered with ESPN and likely have 2-3 games EVERY weekend including a lot of pretty solid games. It will also have 14 schools worth of baseball, basketball etc. You also have 14 coaches shows instead of 1. It's certainly a no brainer in every state in the SEC footprint at that kind of rate. Even in Texas if you argued there aren't enough Aggies you also have a boatload of other SEC grads and fans.
It's going to be $2 a month before you know it.

Honestly $1-1.25 is very high. If we get that, we be rich!!!

That was my thinking too. I think it would be better to get viewers hooked on the product and then cross the $1 barrier. That's a hell of a lot of money for a startup channel.

It'll be less than $1 per subscriber.

Big 10 network started at .85 a subscriber IIRC. We should come close to that.

I haven't looked at this in a long time, but I thought that it was $.50 in Big Ten states and $.05 outside of their boundaries.

They'll find out the difference between subscribers and potential subscribers (LHN) and how you should NEVER base decisions on raw numbers alone
I kinda agree man. What exactly are they going to show that's not already on network, all the ESPN's, etc. already?
