Apple wants me to pay $700 to repair it. Techrestore will charge $229. Is this the best I can hope for?
If I am going to spend $700, I'd rather it be on a pair of cute shoes than a dinky piece of glass.
And please do not turn this into a PC vs Mac debate.

Google it. Not sure about Macs, but my dad broke his Dell laptop screen and the quotes he was getting were around $400. He ordered a replacement screen and fixed it himself for under $100.

229 seems like s good deal, not sure you'll get it done cheaper than that.

for parts and labor, this is a great deal. its not that hard, to do, depending on the model, but thats a deal.
other option, and it may not work, buy the apple care, then make the claim

After doing some quick research, $229 seems like a good deal for parts and labor.

I looked into this, but with my computer, the screen is attached to the wifi antenna and other stuff, and it looked really complicated. I don't know anyone who is electronic enough to connect all of the wires, and it looked like it could easily turn into a disaster.

It's under apple care right now, but it's clearly a man made (or dog made) accident.

I googled it a little bit too, and I talked to the guy there who was REALLY nice. They are apple certified and guarantee a 24 hour return time, but I know NOTHING about these sorts of things and figured you guys would be able to tell me if this was the best I could do.

Does your warranty not include accidental damage? And if you go the $229 route, it will 99.9% void that apple care warranty.

how did you break it?
you would be surprised at some of the things your homeowners, renters, or car insurance actually covers

yes, but unless you have a very small deductible, its not worth it to make a claim. Unless you have your laptop scheduled

My dog saw a cat outside while he was laying next to me, plowed over me to try to get it, and knocked my computer out of my lap and onto my concrete floor.

I thought applecare did, but just went and checked, it does not

Does for an iphone if you get applecare plus. Doesn't for a macbook.
I had a cracked screen last year, but it was because of a heating issue and they replaced my whole computer. I have found that if they can find ANY way possible that it was their problem, they will try to fix it, especially if you are a girl and wear a low cut top, but if they have to send it off, they make you pay.

let me help you with this:
Insurance agent:
How did this happen?
Bellabama:
The thunder shook my house so vigorously during the storm, that my MacBook slid off of the kitchen table, thus cracking the screen.

$229 is a great deal, you probably won't find better. That sucks though. I dropped my laptop in my garage once, just caught my sandal on the edge of the door and tripped. I had to get a new computer. Homeowner's wouldn't cover it because I didn't have it listed specifically. Good luck!
