Anyone remember the burrito place called The Mean Bean? It was on Lumpkin near 5 points. They would actually melt the cheese over the contents of your burrito before serving it - not like at Moe's where they shove the shredded cheese in there and serve it to you at room temp like you're some kind of animal.

Other notables: Zims Bagel Bakery, Birdog Tavern (I think it's an italian place now), and Blue Sky Coffee.

This tugs on my heart strings a little bit. I remember going there countless times before basketball games. There is still one in Duluth but its just not the same.

I remember the Mean Bean too. But I think Barberitos showed them their demise.

I miss Allen's Hamburgers. The original not fabrication that was on Hawthorne. The one in Normaltown.

I was almost in tears when I drove by the old Kroger and noticed Chonnels wasnt there. But it moved out on Baxter.

Anyone miss Mexicalli Grille? I loved that place. I know Mexican places are a dime a dozen. But I enjoyed it.

Man y'all are old

I do remember Son's though but only after they moved down Milledge.

ETA: I do like Butt Hutt though but I haven't been back since they were on Baxter.

Didn't Herschel open a bar and grill type place this year? Or someone paid him for his name and opened it?

Isn't there still one in Athens?? I haven't been but for some reason I feel like I've driven by it multiple times.

Yeah, I flipping hated Barberitos.

There was some cookie place downtown too that was good.

Weaver D's is supposed to close too. Wonder if that ever happened.

Nope. Hasn't closed yet. Drive by there almost every other weekend and see people there.

The bar in the Downtowner Hotel at Five Points. Is that place still there? I remember Jan was the bartender's name. It was a great place for white russians and Patsy Cline on the jukebox. Is Gus Garcia's still there? You could always tell when someone went there because you could smell them from a mile away.

What was the BBQ place that was across from Greshams that had the owner who got shot by the redneck mafia?

Spring House BBQ

Also, Herschel's "diet" fastfood chain was called D'lites.

I lose all respect for people who tell me barbs is better than (insert comparable mexican place here). It's just a greasier, generally shittier version of Moes.

If Weaver D's closes, I'll die.

Steverinos and Guthries were my jam as a kid. Dad would take me to both every time we'd visit Athens for games or roadtrips.

The new Herschel place is going to be interesting. Opens on Clayton sometime this year.

He's opening one on Clayton, where Chango's noodle house was for like 6 months
