Just like we had to wait to see how Chizik teams performed post Cam, I'll hold out to see how Sumlin A&M squad does without Manziel.

They'll have him next year, so they'll have a shot at beating Bama again.

Tillman is a dumb arse - that is beyond dispute.

A&M may beat Bama next year, and they may not. Point is, that many people thought A&M would get plastered by the elite teams of the SEC. That is not the case, and with the uptick in recruiting, is here to stay "in the discussion" for the foreseeable future. Also, someone else said it earlier. We aren't exactly devoid of OL and QB talent, RB, etc... And the incoming WR class is down right sick! The offense will always be good. About the defense, it will take longer there, but this past year bought the time necessary to shore up the defense before JFF leaves for the NFL.

We may not win next year, but for now we are in the conversation for a MNC shot, and that is all you can ask for.

Sumlin has these kids believing, and that is half the battle.

why do people keep bringing up Chiz when he had no real track record of success at any other time as a HC? The dude sucked at Iowa State before he sucked at Auburn.

Pump the brakes a little.

Not trying to flame or anything, but grind out an SEC West Title first. Right now, the West is turning out to be harder to win than the MNC.

Fully agree... win the SEC, and you are the odds on favorite to win the MNC. The real MNC is the SEC championship game.

There's a HUGE difference: Gene Chizik's head coaching record was 5-19 prior to being hired at Auburn. He was AWFUL at Iowa State and there was precedent to say "Ok, maybe he just had one great player because his past history doesnt scream good coach".

Sumlin took over at UH in 2008 and proceeded to give that school it's best four-year run in football in a quarter century. Aside from 2010 when his top three QBs all went down and he was playing a former walk-on, he went 30-9, won his division twice and got them to three bowl games.

Sumlin has more than just his one season at A&M to backup the fact that he is a good coach. Chizik did not.

2011 Bama disagrees with this

but agrees with this.

Tebow/Cam were the greatest spread players of all time.
And we'll never see anything like them again.

Saban beat Tebow the 2nd time around and Cam beat an eventual 3-loss Bama team & he's also breaking NFL records.

Manziel just caught Bama at the right time.

This is pretty accurate IMO but Manziel is a special player in his own right. AU had a good OL in '10 so it would've been interesting to see how Cam would've done in '11 had he stayed.

As for Bama-vs-A&M in '13, my guess is that Bama will win convincingly. They're a more complete team at this juncture, Saban/Smart will do a much better job in game planning, and they don't have an epic emotional game beforehand.

In fairness, UGA was 5 yards away, and Florida beat some awfully good teams as well.

Spencer Tillman is all butt hurt due to the fact that he was called down on his ND prediction by an Alabama fan. He was laughed at by millions and now has to lash out due to his arse hurting. No one is afraid of Texas A&M. Spencer Tillman and his Sooners got beat so bad by ND that Alabama had to show ND who was the real boss. Spencer's Sooners Suck and so does he.

So tired of the excuses - A&M beat Bama, plain and simple. LSU had nothing to do with it - GEEEZ.

A&M will beat Bama (and LSU) in 2013 - it will be interesting to hear the excuses for that, as they will surely be coming.

If you actually believe the LSU game from the weekend before didn't play a factor then you are delusional.

Excuse me, but did I use the LSU game as an excuse? I was simply pointing out your friend's delusion in the assertion that the LSU game played no factor in the A&M game whatsoever.

None of the SEC coaches really knew what to expect playing A&M in 2012. Florida and LSU both came out in their base defenses and struggled when they allowed Manziel to extend plays with his legs. They both made adjustments that kept Manziel in the pocket and forced him to throw, and they both shut down A&&M's offense. Saban came into the A&M game with probably a little too much confidence in his defensive schemes given Bama's success. He was slow to make changes in his defense, and his offense was just horrible in the first quarter. Baqma dug themselves into a deep hole that they dug out of, but feel short of winning. Saban made the defensive adjustments that kept A&M from putting the game away. So I'm pretty confident he will have a better game plan for A&M in 2013.

And I think the results of the BCSCG provide additional evidence of this. Notre Dame had a mobie QB running a spread offense, and Bama shut them down. Bama did so employing the same techniques Florida, LSU and Bama used against A&M when they were stopping A&M's offense. They forced the mobile QB to be a pocket passer. Rather than fearing A&M I'd bet Saban is looking forward to playing them again.

The only thing Saban is scared of is a salary cap.
