How much does size of school, budget and facilities matter.

Can anyone name some instances where a smaller school in a conference that had less money,alumni, advanced facilities managed to do well and go far beyond their means? For a sustained period of time 3+ years. An example doesn't have to be from the SEC.
If there is such a case, how was it possible? Coaching staff/recruiting?
I'm by no means suggesting Ole Miss can win the West anytime soon. It's such an uphill battle, but it is possible within the coming years, if the coaching improves (already good IMHO), get some top recruits, and continue these trends.
When MSU won the West, what was going on the the conference at the time? Look at Auburn, with Cam Newton they crushed and won a natty. Even Arkansas with a great coach and great QB and some other pieces was doing fantastic. I don't know how big Aub,Ark,MSU are but if they can do it... frick it I can dream.

In theory it shouldn't matter since the NCAA rules levels the playing field with limited scholarships, etc. In practice large/wealthy schools have an advantage in being able to afford top tier coaches and facilities.

Auburn and Arkansas have much more money, bigger budgets, and better facilities.
Ole Miss is definitely capable of making it to Atlanta, but it won't be on a consistent basis. I think 8-11 wins per year is very realistic though. But I will say that with this monster incoming class, Ole Miss better seize the momentum and make it to Atlanta or it might be a very long time before ya'll make it.

Absolutely. That's how I see it. If we can average 8 or 9 wins a year and then compete for the West every 3 or so years, then Ole Miss is in a good spot.

ok, 8-10 wins per year might be more accurate. Although I think freeze can consistently bring in a top-20 class, I highly doubt he'll bring in a class as star-studded as this 2013 class, which is why I think the rebs need to make some moves and get to Atlanta before it's too late

Oh and if you weren't trolling, Auburn has the 5th best value in the SEC. Auburn has tons of money, a lot of alumni/fans, advanced facilities and have in some years underachieved. And Auburn has been a football power since the early 1900's.
And a lot of that can probably be said for Arkansas as well.

You ole miss fans need psychological help. Are you serious? Make it to Atlanta? You couldn't get there with a Super Bowl winning quarterback and nfl players everywhere. You have fired coaches regularly and play in the hardest division in college football. You also just won your first conference games in two seasons this past year. I have never seen fans this brain washed in my life. You guys need to be realistic.

Vince, I am be dead serious. And No Aub. I was not trolling. I didn't start following college football until I attended Ole Miss. I didn't even know yall had won the West twice this past decade. I just knew you guys were good while I was attending Ole Miss when Cam was at your school. The way Alabama talks I never knew you guys were very good, my fault.
Vince... there is nothing to suggest Ole Miss cannot win 8-9 games every single year and maybe 10-11 on and off. Hell we had nothing but 3 stars when we had snead, and we went to back to back cotton bowls.
It's not just about having a big turn around from 2-10 to 7-6. It's about how it happened. The coach and O-Coord called smart plays, the QB and WR cores were damn good for a first year basis. Oline was healthy and did decent for their first year together. Plus we are getting some talented players to fill in the gaps.
No one is saying "OMG OLE MISS GONNA WIN EVERYTHING WITHIN a YEAR OR TWO WOOOOOO." No one.
We had some close games against very talented opposition this year, you fill in some needs, you throw a ball here and there, you end up beating those teams. Call it luck, call it whatever you want but it happens all the time, and when everything goes the right way for Ole Miss maybe in 3 years maybe in 5 ... maybe in less. We could be in a heated battle for the top spot in the SEC.
It's just a little optimism man, nothing wrong with it. You would never know since you've never been an Ole Miss fan.
