He left before he got into the super talented recruiting classes in terms of them being juniors and seniors and the depth of the team being from his top 3 classes. If he had stayed LSU would've won 06,07, 11 and maybe one in between.

Because LSU isn't Alabama. Alabama is one of those very few, special places with everything needed to be great if you're a good coach who knows how to use what's in front of you and you aren't intimidated by external factors. Alabama and Nick Saban are perfect for each other, and are creating history together. It's sort of like putting Phil Jackson with Michael Jordan--it was just the perfect recipe.

I'm just curious, what makes Alabama so much easier to coach at than LSU?

This is where the entitlement hate on BAMA fans comes from. BAMA has nothing in regards to natural resources that LSU, UGA, and UF do not have. The money, fan support, facilities, and recruiting base are all equal. They just have had the two greatest coaches of their respective generations. If Saban had stayed at LSU, LSU would have 5 national championships in the decade. He went to the pros, though, and now he's doing it at Alabama instead.

You learn things as you go through life. His experiences at LSU and the NFL really made him into the coach he is today.

Great "F"'ing answer. IMO this is the correct answer. Saban honed his skills at LSU and at Miami and that molded him into what he is now.

Thank you LSU and Miami..

Okay…now that I've got that out of my system, I can honestly say I will never take a post of yours seriously ever again.

Saban did pretty well in '08.

I kind of agree, but I think the history of Alabama football sets it apart from all those other schools in a lot of people's minds. Especially now.

History is definitely a selling point, but recruits really don't care about how many championships a program has so long as they are winning games and championships in that era.
Say 30 years down the road, BAMA has been down for 10 years 7-5-9-3 type program. Recruits aren't lining up saying, "I want to play for the program that has won all those championships, so I'm picking BAMA!"
eta. sure you might have top 10-20 classes but not the consistent top 5

You can call it what you want but our history and tradition proves me right. We had two coaches before Bryant who won NC's. We have now had two after him who have done the same. Mike freakin' Dubose won an SEC Title at Bama. Mike freakin' Shula won 10 games at Alabama while on probation. Man after man has proven Alabama makes it possible to win, even when you suck as a HC. There are alot of variables that go into that "mystique", some tangible, some mysterious. That's what makes the great sports programs in history great---they always return to greatness. Whether it's the Yankees, Lakers, Brazilian soccer team, etc...the legends always come back and achieve greatness. Alabama is one of these.

You would be suprised how many recruits in our dark years mentioned our history and tradition and wanting to help Alabama return to greatness as something that was a selling point to them. So I disagree.

I could buy it on the local level but all in all you're not getting the same type of player as consistently. And yes sometimes bad coaches are good recruiters.

People forget about how bad LSU used to be. They had three winning seasons in the previous 11 years before Saban arrived. You don't just step into a program like that and go 11-1 every year right off the bat. It takes time to instill a winning culture.

Premium articles. Feel free to get a rivals membership and go read interviews from the Shula era with our recruits. It was a pretty common theme among alot of these guys.

This debate, which I must commend you for keeping fairly civil, comes down to one thing... If Saban had stayed at LSU he would have 3 or 4 more national championships to go with his 03 nc. The success would be identical.

I have a rivals membership but obviously I'm not gonna spend time looking up recruit quotes from the Shula era

You're the one who made the comment. Link em and we'll look.
