He has had Case Keenum and Johnny Manziel as his qbs? Needs to prove he can be good without a record breaking quarterback. That's about all I got.

Stupid statement. Saban wouldn't be worth a shite if he was surrounded with sub par talent. (See Chizik). For someone to say the jury is still out because he has had great QB's is dumb. Part of what makes a good coach a good coach is developing talent that he has available.

That should be Mike Sherman's raise. How Sherman managed to lose 6 games with virtually the same roster we had this year tells you all you need to know.
Yes. Same roster minus JFF.

Tannehill was no slouch though.

We whipped Tannehill's arse. We only beat Jff by a few, and made him a turnover machine.

Except for that time he didn't.

Except for that time he had to play his third string QB out of necessity?

Is that the time "he didn't"?

Darn him. He should've had stellar talent in the 3 deep at UH.

Nope.

Merely pointing out that Sherman had JFF on the roster.

What Sherman did was inexcusable. Dude had a top 10 pick at QB.

He had two turnovers in that game that were on him. Yes, there was a third interception, but it was a perfect throw that hit Evans in the hands for a first down and possible TD, but Evans just let it bounce off his hands high into the air.

Until Sumlin can win 11 games with a freshmen QB under center, he's still got a lot to prove.

Sumlin said only one was on him.

TJ ran the wrong route on the first INT.

What if he can't help but produce record-breaking QBs??

When Keenum got hurt in 2010, Houston went 5-7. Sumlin's offense needs a really good QB to be effective.

Maybe it isn't Sumlin making the QBs look good, maybe it's the QBs making Sumlin look good. Either way, Sumlin deserved the raise.

Your evidence does not support your claim. In 2010, Houston lost both their top two QBs to season-ending injuries during the 3rd game of the year. They lost their third string QB a little later in the season.

Keenum, while he was good enough to produce in college, wasn't good enough to sniff the NFL. It seems that the system does not need a really good quarterback - it merely needs a QB who doesn't suck so much that he is 4th string for the Houston Cougars.

Come on, guys, you don't really believe that Manziel is great because of Sumlin's genius, right? Does Sumlin have an XBox controller over on the sideline or something?

Schefter reporting Sumlin's new deal is 5 years, $17.5M ($3.5M per).

Will have official announcement on 2/1.

Yeah I agree.

Now Keenum on the other hand...
