Not saying Sumlin = Saban but here's an interesting comparison of LSU in 2000 vs A&M in 2012.

All time wins
14. LSU
17. A&m

Conference titles
LSU 10
A&M 18

AP National championships
1 each. Both before integration

Record previous 10 years
LSU 54-58
A&M 64-60

Bowl wins
LSU 16
A&M 14

Consensus All-Americans
LSU 13
A&M 21

Heisman winners
1 each

Both schools had been underachieving programs historically. Very solid histories with passionate fan bases and generous donors, and excellent facilities that just needed the right coach to get to the next level.

LSU went on to win 2 NCs and was the 2nd winningest program of the next 10 years. Nobody would have predicted this kind of success given their history, but people always knew they had the potential because of their built in advantages.
I'm not saying Sumlin will duplicate what LSU did, but LSU proved it's possible.

Don't tell LSU people this. They don't care. And can't really read.

Saban came to LSU from the Big 10 and without any southern ties. Just like Bret Bielema.

Well, I mean, it's one year. Surely A&M has had a history of time that they finished well and had high hopes for another good year before Sumlin.

LSU fans are the least intelligent in the SEC. It's not close.

I agree with the founding base. Here's what most incredible .... once Saban took the reins at Bama, LSU (which Saban built) has not won championships.

Sumlin could very well do GREAT things ... but he exists in the Saban (BAMA) world.

Much respect to beat BAMA in T-TOWN. Ask yourself, will this become normal or was that game (MUCH KUDOS) an aberration?

TAMU was impressive ... NO DOUBT ... period ... but TAMU is NOW on the radar of Saban ... what will happen? Don't know ... but recent, past history indicates that Saban will have something VERY special for TAMU in 2013.

Anyway ... congrats to the win ... not expected and VERY REAL in 2012.

What the frick do LSU fans care about where A&M's program is?

So, A&M replaces Auburn as the third team in the West?

It's not like A&M has jumped LSU in the level of the two programs.

Good luck. Why the hell would an out of state recruit want to go to school in Southwest Missouri? The piggies are in trouble.

It took literally 3 minutes to look this up and about 2 minutes to type it.

There is no convincing. It's a fact, not an opinion. LSU and A&M were nearly identical. In fact A&M had a slightly better history until 2000.

Yeah we got teased in '06 and '10. This isn't really about this year or Sumlin, but what the program's potential might be with the right coach.

Why is there a space separating your last word from the question mark?

No shite. True in the truest sense of truth!

I am frankly AMAZED that LSU did not drop OFF the face of the earth post - Saban.

They have not. I REALLY think they insist on being top 2 (not top 6 in the SEC) moving forward.

They HAVE played that part since Saban left - MANY KUDOS TO LSU --- can they maintain it?

We shall see.
