Won't be built until we can. Just doing the hard part(underground/footings) ahead of time. Fun fact...Michigan placed footings when they built the Big House that would have allowed it to be expanded to roughly 200k.

At present time, no we can't fill it up. That's why we aren't building it all right now and only going to 62k. Our enrollment goal is 25k by 2016 and 30k by 2025...so basically, we are pumping out about twice the students we did just 20 years ago. Eventually, this is going to translate to crowds at sporting events...

ETA: All premium seating in the expansion is already accounted for -- which tells me phase 2 will likely be coming shortly -- In that phase, we demolish the middle section of chairbacks on the west side and the pressbox and turn that entire area into boxes and club seating, with a new pressbox built on top of the east upper deck...

Basically, this:

will look like this:

Georgia this year. Now, it was empty by halftime. Unless we put up shite shows like 2012, we sell out all of our home games. We didn't sell out the cupcakes this year. Nice try though.

Quite frankly unless its a big game I think most are having a hard time filling up their stadiums.

More games on tv, higher ticket prices, economy went down the shitter in 2008 etc.

Pretty much this. Though I'd much rather find a way to go to a game in person.

Eh, for AU this year it was really the underwhelming lack of success that made people leave early and sometimes not even come. But, then again, FL State won the ACC yet they couldn't even come close to filling up their stadium.

Engie, don't know if you have seen the future renderings for the new press box. It will go on top of the upper west side & it will cut some seating. Look at Missouri press box type and picture that on top of west side seats.

I'm guessing we will approach a new record this September.
we will never cram that many people into the current kyle ever again because apparently the fire Marshall got pissed. We will probably have high 87000 low 88

Well, we are completely rebuilding it starting this year.

Besides, it's not about how the stadium looks, it's how 88k swaying, maroon-clad fans look (and sound) booming down on you in such a relatively-confined space. You'll find out soon enough.

Great thread, thanks for posting it.

I have a Book somewhere... Saturday Shrines or something like that from the Sporting News I think. It goes over all the major NCAA football stadiums including history, records, etc. Great stuff.

Umm... Mr. Kyle would like a word with you. Average attendance in 2012 was 86,777 in a stadium that seats 82,589.

I guess this whole move-to-the-SEC thing is working out pretty well.
