From a national perspective, is the Te'o Story Bigger than Camgate?

I realize regionally, probably no story will ever top the Cam Newton pay-for-play saga that unfolded in November of 2010 (and in some ways, still continues today)... but does the Te'o fake girlfriend story have the potential to be bigger nationally?

Notre Dame is the most well no football power in the country, Te'o is their most high profile player and Heisman runner up... countless respected news agencies ran with his story (SI, New York Times, CBS News, ESPN, etc.).

Hell yes. It absolutely exploded in less than 12 hours. They are mocking him from one coast to the other, on social media and TV.

That said, if the Cam story had been investigated as well, it could have been different, as in more serious.

Unless somehow ND is tied into this and found to be purposely feeding this lie, it'll blow over in a week.

Maybe... the lead-up to the draft will definetly keep it on the front pages, IMO.

Two different situations. Really hard to compare. If anything it'll depend on how deep this thing goes and how involved the University is. I think for the most part people are over the Cam stuff. I know I am.

Everybody in the south drinks that sorry excuse for a beer. Bama is not the only one.

Absolutely. Schools and athletes are accused of cheating quite often. Cam-Gate was a big deal, but this is about more than sports, IMO. People who had no idea who he was yesterday morning are talking about this today. Most people are captivated by this story.

Had this come out a week or two before the BCSNCG, I definitely think it would be bigger... but it still has potential, especially with the stange PC and stance Notre Dame has taken.

I don't know but I'm pretty amazed at how much and how crazy the coverage is over this.

This. The Cam Gate is a legend and will last decades. The amount of fail that was the Cam gate always has me laughing though.
