What is so sad about this -- if true -- is that the media dumped gasoline on this, and it could have been fact checked in 12 minutes. It was -- if true -- concocted by a couple of 22 year-olds.

What?
Deadspin is pretty damn realiable and notorious about breaking stories like this before major media outlets. It's why they are like the fifth most visted news site on the internet.
A ton or major sports stories have originated there. A damning investigation of Lance Armstrong was published two years ago and is one of the main reasons why nobody at all believed him the last couple of years.
