I am not or ever have been good at following coaching careers. Would anyone like to break down a rating (1-10, or A - F) on each coach position. Granted it is objective, but I really don't know enough about coaching to form my own opinion.

The one thing I do know that is that it does feel nice to have a somewhat fresh start in regards to the coaching of our team.

I think this would be most peoples opinion:

OL: C(I would put at B)
OC/QB: D(I would put at C)
DB: B
OC/WR: A
S: B
DL: A
DC: A
TE: B
ST/RB: A

ETA: HC: F or D based on the first day he was hired.

So mixed emotions...

Toss in an "overall" category. Not necessarily an average, but more if you think the bad hires will be an anchor or the great hires will lift up the bad coaches. Just your personal feeling of how we should be feeling.

I know this is going to sound sunshine pumper-ish...but I think the reason that the OC/QB coach is getting such a bad grade is because he's extremely young and hasn't really proven much yet. That said, he's been a part of Malzahn's offense since he was in HS. I think he's a perfect fit...just unproven.

HC B
OC I can't grade because who the heck was Malzahn supposed to put there when the he is running the Offense.
QB D hope he proves better
DC A
The rest are C to A's

Recruiters STACCCCKKKKKEEEEDDDDDD!!!
Let's hope the developing of players is honor roll worthy.

Overall this whole staff is pretty solid IMO. The good hires outweigh the average to below average. We wont know until we start competing next year and then we will see the potential. We need at least a year of recruiting with these guys too to see if they can pull some blue chips in, but they have at other schools so I wouldnt worry about recruiting. Its all on coaching now.

OC should be an A since its pretty much Malzahn running things.

I didn't flip out with Malzahn's announcement and I'm not freaking out now. We had some really good names thrown around so I can see the let down, but there are advantages to having Malzahn as our guy.

The only thing that bugs me is that it seems like too comfortable a hire. When you hire someone you're so familiar with, it just screams he wasn't the best possible candidate, because you probably didn't exhaust your search.

But then, he gets a chance to prove he's the shite.

Especially since the A has never been a OC in D1.

I put DC as an A based on his recruiting ability. He said himself he has to learn Gus's offense. Its safe to say he wont be calling most of the plays, at least not at the beginning.

Our last staff was a bunch of A's then too. Why the hell did we fire them?

No they weren't. In recruiting maybe but that's about the only area any of them had an "A"

Just based on the positions in an upgrade/downgrade from last year:

HC Lateral move until Malzahn proves he can win
DC Upgrade on the college level right now.
OC Probably downgrade but both were unproven so you could say lateral
WR Upgrade IMO.
RB Downgrade
TE Lateral
OL Downgrade IMO

DL Upgrade
LB Not sure
CB Not sure. Martinez was improving the secondary if they could have played them tighter. I will say upgrade
S Again, I will say upgrade

Special teams Interesting that I wanted to keep Boulware for ST so much, but big upgrade. Bisaccia is a long term NFL special teams guy that is very good at what he does.

Overall, I think the staff is upgraded a lot from last year and the head coach is probably/most likely upgraded from last year. This coaching staff has its hands full though.

According to your dumbass grading scale, yes.

Thigpen: great recruiter
Chizik: great recruiter
Grimes: great recruiter
Trooper: great recruiter
Luper: great recruiter
Pelton: great recruiter
Martinez: good recruiter
Roof: good recruiter

Explain why its so frickin dumb? Where is your scale at?

You trying to take apart anyone grading hires is stupid because we all dont know how this will play out until we start playing the games. Obviously, we need some serious coaching. Craig is an A based on his work at FSU and if you think Craig isnt a good hire, you are a dumbass.

you realize that Bisaccia hasn't coached running backs but one year in the past 12 or 13 years right? Since he has been in the NFL, he coached Tampa's running backs for year and that is it. He coached running backs at Ole Miss but left back in 2000 or 2001 or something and the only notable backs he coached there was Deuce McAllister. He never had another back of any note from any time before either.

So yeah, I will argue that Luper is a better position coach at running backs.
