Coker came in and inherited a bunch of talent and won immediately but the program went south after the last of the Butch Davis talent left the program.

Will the same fate befall Sumlin? Obviously, Sherman could recruit given that he recruited ALL of the contributing members of this year's team.

I just don't know how Sumlin could have lost to two of the worst programs in the SEC this year AT HOME. I mean, Florida lost to Louisville and LSU lost to Clemson. As we all know from other posts from A&M fans, LSU is on a downward spiral. AND A&M almost lost to Louisiana Tech?!?! A&M barely went 1-1 against Louisiana teams last year.

No, Sumlin doesn't have an action figure yet.

Larry Coker is no longer to go-to example for shitty coaches who derped their way into a championship.

This. The only difference is Les Miles has tricked LSU into keeping him around in spite of his glaring flaws.

You're not suggesting that a better analogy would be a coach who had a once in a lifetime talent at QB fall in his lap?

Hmm...

Curley Hallman at Southern Miss with Brett Favre?

No...that can't be it.

Hmm...

I'm just trying to respond to several A&M posts in which Aggies are trying desperately to convince themselves that LSU will be down next year so they have any shot in hell of winning in Tiger Stadium.

And my point was, maybe they should worry whether they're going to be down next year before worrying about others.

Larry Cocker inherited an winning team. Sumlin got a teamwiht talent and made them good.

Your losing as almost many starters on defense, that wasn't as good as ours to begin with. You are losing as many OL. You are losing more starters on offense.

Sumlin has found success everywhere he's been. Top notch man & fantastic coach. His star is on the rise. We (TAMU) just need to keep him.

His team lost to Florida (by a missed FG) b/c it was our first game of the year. The LSU game hurt. But LSU didn't suck (nor did LA Tech).

Solid troll, though. Looking forward to the game in BR this fall.

One of those flaws not being losing to Kevin Sumlin.

I keep being accused of trolling. I wasn't one of several Aggies starting posts questioning whether LSU would be down next year or whether this is the beginning of some down era for LSU football.

And I stand by my original thought. I say we wait about three years before crowning Kevin Sumlin as the next coming of Mike Tomlin.

Sumlin had success at Houston and was a highly sought after coach with options. He chose A&M. He was last year's version of Charlie Strong. Sumlin isn't some scrub like Coker or Chiz.

No one has crowned Sumlin the king of anything.
He's a good coach. Nothing more, nothing less.

It's not Les Miles either.
