Loston had a nice end to the season FWIW. Glad he's back to lead a young secondary. all freshmen and sophomores besides him.

It's not that hard with all the extra tutoring the players get.

Long story short his grades were crap and no one on the LSU side thought he had a chance at qualifying, plus there was a legal issue (statutory rape iirc).

Lacy was a huge gamble and LSU had backs they felt as good or better about.

Yeah, academics mainly. LSU didn't want him. I don't blame that decision then or now, makes perfect sense from our side of the pond. Grats to Bama for taking him, getting academics straightened out and having him live up to his potential as a star RB.

Why did they not want Lacy but did players like Lostin, Taj Jones, and Peterson? Hell Ford the back LSU took over Lacy had to appeal being ruled academically ineligible this year, and Jones was ineligible.

I could be completely wrong about this and would love to know the true answer if Bama fans know it, but I was told a while ago that Bama has a remedial program that tends to help guys stay academically on track. UGA used to, but I believe sometime after the Jan Kemp affair it was completely done away with at UGA. I have no idea if that was because of the JK thing or because the University finally decided it was F'n ridiculous to run a remedial program at a flagship state university, something I can completely understand. It was sometime in the late 90s, early 2000s I think so it might have been a part of the Adams push to improve the reputation of UGA.

I don't think we thought they were going to have those issues, except maybe with Loston. shite, seems like everybody in BR knew in fall 2008 that Lacy would have eligibility issues

There's also the fact that LSU's been more noticeably stacked at HB than CB, FS and LB for several years. The elite CB trend started with Peterson; our 2008 secondary was really inexperienced (Chris Hawkins and Jai Eugene, for Christ's sake). We've been solid at HB since the championship run in 07

LSU did want him. Coaches thought he wouldn't qualify so let him go.

plus Lacy had some disciplinary issues going on behind the scenes similar to Jeremy Hill.

All major universities require their athletes to attend tutoring or study sessions. Most require them to scan their ID card when they enter the academic center and again when they leave. Each school sets a minimum time requirement they must meet each week.

he does. or at least the class that I had with him. He actually seems fairly intelligent. Maybe a little apathetic. But he is not dumb. Kenny Bell, Ed Stinson, and Anthony Steen on the other hand....

I vaguely remember hearing an interview a while back where he discussed players that qualified for a program that helped kids with "learning disabilities" so kids that normally wouldn't get into college could attend and still get a degree.
