People sit here and try to compare this supposed dynasty to previous ones. This is something to just consider.

Without the BCS format in 2009 Texas would have likely played in the Fiesta while Bama would have played in the Sugar. If both would have won their bowl games which would have been likely we would have probably has a split national championship.

Without the BCS format last season Bama wouldn't have even made it to the Sugar Bowl. Undefeated LSU would have likely gone and would have won the Sugar Bowl which means they would have been undefeated National Champions.

This season Notre Dame would have likely gone to the Orange Bowl while Bama would have been in the Sugar. Notre Dame would have probably won the Orange which would have made them the undefeated National Champions regardless of what Bama would have done in the Sugar.

Just something to consider.

It's a dynasty, no other way to spin it.

One can play what if all day but it is what it is. 3 out of 4. RTR.

You're mad and a bit on the slow side, but you are not wrong that Saban benefits from the BCS system. You just don't understand how he benefits. You mistakenly list something that all coaches can take advantage of and attribute Saban's success to that.

No, Saban benefits from the fact that in the current format he has 30+ days to prepare for a game, and NO ONE can beat him if you give him that much time to pick your team apart. He is relentless and gets the most out of each minute of each day. No one is going to out prepare him. No one knows better how to have his team peaking at the right moment--kickoff of the National Championship Game.

I think the biggest benefit Saban has the the amount of time between SEC Championship and the BCS. I honestly believe with that much time to prepare no coach is going to beat Saban. Now I know Utah did that one year but I don't think the Bama players hearts were not really in that game.

Why are you so confident about Notre Dame beating Florida State in the Orange Bowl? I think that's far from a given.

No doubt. But his preparation and system are part of that success too. The guy is the best coach in college football. Hands down.

I think Chip Kelly is a better coach. I know the first thing you will say is 4 national championships to none but Chip does the most with the cards he's dealt. He never has good recruiting rankings. Just look this season....Oregon ranks 45 in recruiting. They'll probably play for a national championship next year even with poor recruiting.

Chip runs the best scheme in college football. Yes Saban has good defenses but it's more because of talent than scheme. Saban puts 5 defensive players in the pros every year. Kelly might put 1 a season.

What Saban has done is more impressive than what the Bear accomplished. Two things Saban has to deal with now the Bryant didn’t are:

• Scholarship limits. Back in the days of the Bear a team basically had an unlimited number of scholarships. Teams like Alabama would sign good players just so they wouldn’t go to another team and develop.

• Players leaving early for the NFL. Bear didn’t have to deal with that.

Give Saban credit where credit is due in that at Alabama, he is the very best coach out there. However, the only drawback for Bama Fans is who replaces him when he retires (which I think it will be 5 years or less)?

Saban has set the bar to unrealistic heights and Bama Fans will not be very patient of the next 3-4 coaches.

Which proves that the BCS is better than leaving it up to the just polls, even with its flaws.

Quality post.

I agree. Alabama's FB program is firing on all cylinders.

The next few coaches they get when Saban retires will have a difficult time keeping expectations in check.
