Would you say the SEC made you tougher or do you think you'd be just as good if you didn't play an SEC schedule this year?

In terms of physical play? Absolutely.

Without question. OU couldn't beat us in a game of smash-mouth. So they had to kick field goals.

it was a psychological effect, they are now SEC, big brother Texas is fading in the past.

i would say so. it also helped toughen joeckel and matthews up. they dominated the line so badly tonight it was comical

The SEC might have had something to do with it, but more than anything, I think it's Sumlin. We had waaaay too much talent to have lost six games last year. These guys are just so much tougher mentally.

And Snyder has been a god as DC. He's taken very questionable talent (and zero depth) and made a respectable defense out of it.

Sumlin did. I think they would have run the table in the big12

Sumlin is the real thing. But your team is not up to the depth level of a team like LSU or Alabama yet. You will be soon. But playing against SEC defenses almost every week honed that offense into a beast and turned everyone on it into a better player or you would not have survived and you would not have dominated OU like you did tonight. You might have still beaten them, but do you honestly believe you would have humiliated them like this without being pounded by the gauntlet of talent you played this year?

TAM is now my second favorite team and if you beat us next year in Death Valley it's not going to be a shock at all. You're the real deal. You weren't prior to this move to the big boys.

Sherman left the cupboard full--we always recruit lights out.
The difference this year: Sumlin brought a chemistry to the program that old guys like Slocum, Franchione, & Sherman didn't.
That said, it always makes you a better team when you face stiffer competition.

I think all the hype going into the season forced the team (coaches and players) to put in the extra effort that isn't always attainable by every team out there normally.

So yes, you could say the SEC forced A&M to step up where they might have previously not have gone the extra distance.

Also, the physicality is far and away superior in the SEC than any other conference. Which week in and week out raises the bar for our players to show up and hit someone.

Blake Bell turning into a non factor in that game pretty much answers that question

Yeah that didn't work out like they thought at all.

Stoops ranting how TAM isn't an SEC team kinda bit him on the arse.

They may not be a prototypical SEC team, but they did just survive an SEC season and that made them something far better than a pathetic Big 12 team by a long shot into the jizz jar.

I believe the SEC gauntlet does prepare your team well if you can stay healthy

I completely agree with you. When asking this question, in no way am I trying to stir the pot, but do you think if UT pulled in a coach like Sumlin, they would experience same results?

For the longest time, I assumed Texas players as a whole were...well..."soft" compared to the likes of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, and Georgia. Do you think the players at Texas are essentially "diamonds in a rough"?

Definitely. Our run defense was flat awesome, and apparently we will be just fine without KK. We've played several teams better than OU, so we came out and punched them in the mouth.

Sumlin is the real deal as well.
