The day after Josh Pastner said he was done with the series no questions asked.
Pasnter pwnt by his AD again.
quote:
Pastner on Tennessee series earlier this week: "We will not play Tennessee anymore as long as I'm the head coach and I'm doing my scheduling. When we're done with them (after this year), it's over. We move on. The Tennessee series — move on. "
quote:
Gary Parrish of CBSSports.com confirmed reports Thursday that Memphis and Tennessee are close to finalizing a deal to continue the series long-term in both basketball and football. Memphis AD Bowen and UT AD Dave Hart are both on board.

Pastner probably won't be there much longer anyway, dude is an idiot.

This has been a real mess for Memphis. All week he has struck down any talk of the series continuing and now this.

Memphis (including the city as a whole) has way too much talent to be mediocre year after year.

Pastner is not a good coach. I saw a stat during their game against Louisville, and he doesn't have a single win against a top 25 team since he has been there.

Smart move by the AD, but Pastner comes out looking like a bitch again.

Yep. I'm not really a Memphis fan.

LOL Pastner. I'd love to have him as an assistant who is only allowed to recruit though.

Still think the 2008 matchup was the best atmosphere to any game I have been to

Live in memphis, so this has been the talk all week on the radio. It is definitely a smart move. The Memphis fans have been desperate to get some good home games in the Forum. Josh has said he doesn't want to play TN and that L'ville is their rival. Said earlier this week that he and Bowen were on the same page and saw things eye to eye. Then it comes out yesterday that Memphis AD Bowen, and TN AD Hart have been talking for a few days now about getting something in place for the future. Basically made Josh look like an idiot again(almost identical situation happened earlier this year with Ole Miss series).
If I'm Josh I win the CUSA, win the CUSA tourney, maybe win a game in the NCAA and then bail at the first job that comes after me...and yes people will come after him. They have every year. He was almost going to NC State before they got Godfrey. So. Cal will likely be available; UCLA might as well, who could go after Godfrey since he has history there which would free up NCSU again. With this being the 2nd time his AD has undercut him, I'd bail as soon as I could; and leave Memphis to flounder to try to find a coach that wants to have a shitty AD do things behind his back.

I think Parrish was embellishing on how many schools would line up to hire JP. He was a commodity 2 years ago, he loses value every year he trots out mediocre to bad basketball teams filled with 5 star recruits.

Are you saying Memphis is fun to travel to? Because that's only true if you consider getting shot to be fun.

I don't disagree, but to think he can't get a job like some actually think is pretty ridiculous. He could leave right now and get another HC job paying the same salary in a heartbeat. He's a very likeable guy that will recruit his arse off. There's a reason Cal never recruited the Memphis kids, and I think Josh is learning why now. Each kid has his own hangers-on that are constantly in their ear telling them to do this and that and they'll get to the league, etc. Trying to coach them is futile at that point.
