| How good is ND's D and will Alabama run the ball well? (Posted on 1/3/13 at 2:43 pm)
Holy shite the media is pimping this D as one of the best of the last decade. It doesn't bother me...I realize they have a game to hype. But I'm really starting to question this part of the game. On one hand I can't see ND slowing down Lacy and Yeldon and co. But damn if Alabama takes it to this vaunted defense there will be some people looking like fools out there.

I think if we load up one side with TEs, then ND can't stop it.

I think their front 7 is very good. Will probably need to loosen them up with some 1st down passes - like in last year's BCSNCG - in order to run the ball effectively.

The fact that they're undefeated and are ranked #1 in Pts. allowed tells me they are are a pretty good defensive unit. But until I see someone stop Bama's running game,I don't see any team doing it.

I consider them solid in front seven, but depth appears to be an issue. Not a good issue to have when playing Bama. Haven't seen any numbers, but I'm guessing they may be the largest front seven Bama played this year.

I did some number crunching both teams are very close weight wise. But the speed is what will beat ND. ND's starting OL is MUCH slower than BAMA's.

ND might slow down the run in the 1st quarter, without loading the box. After the ND defense tires a little the only way they stop the run will be by loading the box. Then Mr. Cooper will have a field day.

I pretty much agree with y'all. Just seems as if people think ND is the Steel Curtain and nobody can run the ball on them. I'm not expecting a blowout by any means but Alabama should move the ball. It feels like the media is starting to come up with any reason for ND to be the better team right now...it's slightly annoying I guess.

nd allows about 4yds per rush. i can see them making some tackles for no gain but i can easily see bama breaking many 10-15 yard gains. the red zone is where it's tough to run on nd. i think we need to get a little more creative on our plays when we get down inside the 10. if k bell can go and be 90% of himself i look for us to really open it up. if this happens look for yeldon, norwood or the (forgotten) te's to make some plays catching the ball.

The only person that can stop our running game is our OC.

I heard today that they give up 5 yards per rush

Just like always, the pass and the run complement each other. An effective downfield threat opens up the run, and the run sets up play action. Nothing fancy, just fact. What this means is that the O-line has to protect, AJ has to be on, and the receivers have to get open. Just like against LSU. If that happens, we will run wild. If not, look for a slugfest.
