17 missed free throws. Something like 3 of 12 in OT from the line.

Isn't a bad basketball program. It's not like we lost to parkview high school or something. Now, we aren't good either. In fact we're pretty awful. But losing to Iona isn't the worst loss in the country by any means.

I am not a Fox apologist by any means but one thing that he has done is greatly improve the talent within he program. If I am not mistaken we have 2 former Mr.Bssketball's from this state (Caldwell-Pope and Thornton), which also makes Fox's shortcomings more frustrating. IMO think he should get one more year to right the ship and if he can't then good riddance.

It's awful to watch. (Not that I've seen a single fricking game this year b/c all have been on ESPNU and I don't GET frickING ESPNU!!!!!). UGA has some talented freshmen but with no support from the University and fans, it's hard to get these guys to play at a high level. Pathetic and sad at the same time. Oh and Fox has to go IMO. He's not the right guy for the job. He's had his time to produce and this was the year for him to take his team to the next level and he's gone back in time 3 years.

The question is...
Can we get an elite coach to recruit and coach up talent to put the fans in the stands?

I would say it's unlikely. Coaching in college basketball is hard IMO. Best kids are 1 and done... getting 2 years out of a kid with talent is pretty fortunate. If you can't take a player like KCP and build a team that can win at least to some degree in his first year then you're not going to be successful. We've had good crowds for basketball in the past but lack of commitment from the university and poor decision making in hiring Harrick and the hangover after his departure have really wrecked any momentum this team has. Sad, because I'd like to see us improve there. I end up having to pull for Craptucky every year come tournament time.

Someone on campus needs to step up and create a group to build some support for this team. It really is pathetic to see 36 people in the stands of a newly renovated building. I feel that if we fill the place, the young talent will play to their potential. Tickets are like 8 bucks and they are all you can eat seats.

UGA basketball needs this as a start.

18-20 year old kids feed off the emotion from the stands. Your fans suck for basketball, and there's really no excuse. I believe that if there were even a couple of thousand rowdy undergrads in the seats yelling, you'd win twice as many games. Surely they're not all studying for the big Russian Literature final.

Just goes to show you that we need a drastic change regarding that sport. It's not like they are in the bars 7 nights a week. I would blame the $3 ticket prices, but I can't do that either. I guess World of Warcraft and Starcraft 2 are really that fun.

Laziness? Perhaps.

I do know that our AD was in the stands peaking over Fox's shoulder... Got to be tough for him to see that place empty.

Maybe the coach needs to look more closely at how well a recruit shoots free throws in high school. If they can not hit them in high school, he should not recuit that kid unless they are 7 feet tall.

While Iona is a decent team overall our BB program does not seem to be improving. Fox is getting 1 or 2 good players but that is not enough to build a complete team. This is on McGarity and our admins. They need to bring in a proven coach who can recruit in our area. Basketball is a very popular HS sport in the state of Georgia and we have some damn good players in-state. Just like in football, there's no reason we shouldn't be getting our share of those players.

Thornton

Really man, you can't be serious..have you ever, like, watched him play?? Yeah, he's Mr. Basketball alright now that's pretty funny

if fox will leave Djuricich, Thornton and Vincent Williams on the bench for the entirety of the rest of the season, or better yet, just dismiss them from the team..he might get something positive going some time this year..if he continues to let these scrubs play, then he deserves to be fired

as for the attendance, put an exciting product on the floor, and people will come...but I do think the AD needs to totally revamp the ticket sales and seating preferences... many of those empty seats you see on the lower are sold, but the lard asses are too lazy to show up. That just looks bad.
