In Manziel's case, his clunkers happened at the right time. With South Carolina State and Sam Houston State on the Aggie schedule, it's hard to take his season stats seriously.

the folks who cover Notre Dame on a daily basis figured this was going to be something special Sept. 15 in East Lansing.
A very sensitive, family-centric young man, Te'o had just gone through the worst week of his life. His grandmother and girlfriend had died within hours of each other. Would he even be able to play against Michigan State?

quote:

Not only did Te'o play, but he was dominant. He channeled his emotion into a positive performance: 12 tackles, 1 tackles for loss, a fumble recovery and 2 passes broken up.
After the game, on his way to the team bus, Te'o stopped to talk. He was spent. The tank was empty. He had physically and emotionally given his all.

He should have won the Heisman Trophy right there.

All that was lost in the national scope.

Gotta love ND fans and media.

I have several family friends that are ND grads or fans. They were bitching how the award should be the best player on the best team with the most heart. because thats what the heisman is all about

I wonder if people feel guilty parading his personal tragedy to try to pony up points for their favorite team.

Isn't there some Spirit award for these types of stories? Serious question.

I think it's good all these young folk are able to witness the aura of ND entitlement and delusion. Most thought I was exaggerating about how bad it used to be, now they'll get to witness it the next few yrs.

Johnny Football never did this. I think he has a fair point.

JFF padded his stats against Auburn, State, Arkansas, and Mizzouri; he didn't play long enough to pad stats in the FCS games...

Wow. What could JFF do to ever top that?

Teo is definitely the only football player to experience tragedy this year. no doubt he should have been given the Heisman this year, and for good measure be given next year's, too, whether or not he goes pro.

I've definitely seen this before. I remember in 2002 (I think? It was early 2000s) ND started the season unranked, and after starting off 2-0 was in the top 10. I was shocked. But I think the biggest factor for me personally (and probably many others) is that I live in the south and don't know any notre dame fans. I don't have to interact with any domers, and only really hear ND love fests if I watch ESPN. However, I know many many alabama fans and interact with them daily, not to mention UGA recruits heavily against bama year after year.

And let's be totally honest here, it's not like bama doesn't have that same "aura" about them too
