Assuming (or perhaps expecting) A&M to have success after one year is setting up for a letdown. Sustaining success in the SEC takes time. How many teams are annually at the top of the standings? Teams have good years then not so good years. Breaks don't always go your way.

Despite my recent joining of the board, I have been a lurker for years. I remember when people were saying the same things about Alabama with Saban. "They aren't there yet." "We still have a couple of years until Saban is finished with the process." The next thing you knew, Saban had punched LSU in the mouth and was holding up a crystal ball.

Now I'm not saying that A&M is the next Bama, but I am saying that there is not some unwritten rule that the Aggies can't be a real threat until a certain number of years in the conference. Sumlin is the real deal.

Sure they can. Just like Missouri can win the east. But will they? Hell no.

5 points away from doing it this year. Schedule is easier next year. But I bet there will be 20 LSU posters on this thread laughing at the notion.

You might think that your schedule is easier next year but the west was down with Auburn and Arkansas shitting the bed. Whether on the road or at home, if those two teams are playing good football next year you will see a different season. I remember Auburn playing Croom at MSU and you knew that Auburn was going to win, but at the end of the game, win or lose, you got the shite beat out of you.

Ole Miss will be better next year, not sure about MSU losing a few good players on D, Auburn has to be better (how much remains to be seen), Arkansas has to be better, LSU was down this year and they are still pretty good and Alabama will be good as long as Saban is there. Add a target to your back and you have the making for a few losses.

the only way we can win the west is if moore, matthews, and joeckel come back. IF (and i really do mean if) all 3 come back, we have just as good of a chance as bama and LSU. especially with our schedule, IF all three come back, our game vs bama will probably be the SEC west championship game

holy shite. I just looked at your schedule and you only have 4 away games and one is Missouri? How the hell did that work? LSU, Ole Miss and Arkansas on the road and 9 home games?

A lot can change between Week 3 and 12, so not likely

yep. and our other east opponent is vandy. so in all honesty, just because we miss UF, UGA, and USCe, we can probably still win 10 games next year even if we dont bring all 3 of matthews, moore, and joeckel back. but us winning the west totally depends on us bringing them all back

Bama is similar. 7 home games, 4 away (all jokes except TAMU) & 1 NF

What happened to Bama in 2010? The offense was mediocre with Ingram (coming off his Heisman) & Richardson. Why? We lost most of the O line starters. We went 9-3.

Jff won't have the same success next year. He'll be good, but you lose 3-4 next year.

LSU's D is designed to give high powered offenses trouble.

LSU will beat A&M rather easily next year.

A few things.

1. A&M loses that monster O-line that they had this year. So to see how effective Johnny football will be has to wait until September

2. I think D coordinators after having played him and the A&M O for a season already will be able to scheme and prepare better

Y'all had a great season and JFF is the real deal but a lot of his success is due in part to that awesome OL. I don't think win the west. Finish the same as this year at best or take a small step back.

thats not the point. IF (and like i said earlier, big if) we bring back all 3 of our 1st rounders and we beat bama then we probably go into death valley undefeated because of how easy our schedule is. while you have to go to BDS and Sanford and have to play UF in baton rouge. we can be undefeated and you could easily have 2 losses. so whether you beat us or not might not even matter

But it bothers me that dumb A&M fans think losing 1 or 2 tackles and Swope won't hurt you at all.

Oh you've made it very clear how bothered you are.

We get it. And of course losing Joeckel and Swope will hurt. We've just got assloads of offensive talent. We think we'll survive.

saban had 9 weeks of footage to game plan against. and besides, its not like no one knows how to stop him, thats already been discovered, its all about personnel

I think they have a very realistic chance to win the West. If they knock off Bama in Week 3, it could happen.

Both TAMU and Bama have pretty easy roads to the SECCG. LSU has pretty much no chance.

Are DCs running "circle scramble" drills?

Is Smart putting on a seminar on how to defend the vaunted "fumble to yourself, scramble out of pocket, and throw strike to the redzone" number?

Look, you defend Johnny by playing contain with very fast DEs. The scheme itself is simple. It's just that very few have the horses.
